THE DANCING STARS OF PESIT

Apoorva Rao (IV Sem CSE) Neha Raje Milind (II Sem ISE) We had a wonderful time talking to some members of our colleges much admired dance teams- Sanskruthi, Trance and Pulse. Although these teams have very little in common as far as their chosen styles of dance are concerned, they all share a deep passion for dance. SANSKRUTHI Whenever Sanskruthi takes the stage, we are left mesmerised by their synchronicity and grace. Their Indian Contemporary form generally comprises of a series of flowing movements that perfectly match the speed and rhythm of remixed classical music. They were given the opportunity to perform in Sri Lanka last semester! Watching them perform is a feast for the eyes. The performances are generally theme based and try to convey a deep message or emotion through the expressions of the dancers. The most popular piece choreographed by them is Dashavataram - The incarnations of Vishnu (Were sure youve thoroughly enjoyed it). Time ,Ramayan, Fusion and Pushpanjali are titles of some of their lesser known achievements. It is sad to note an exponential decrease in the number of young dancers who have recently taken up Indian classical dance forms. The members of Sanskruthi have a strong motto to spread their hybrid dance form so that more young Indians connect with their roots and appreciate its richness. Sannidhi,Tanya, Swathi, Divya, Varsha, Nishkala, Sanchita, Pavithra, Shweta feel very proud to be part of this team. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------TRANCE Trance is still in its stages of infancy. They won their first competition in October last year during "Manage" and have been putting in a consistent effort to become better performers. Their chosen genre of dance is a fusion of western and contemporary styles. They derive inspiration from the legendary Michael Jackson. Recently, they've danced to tunes like Eenie Meenie-Justin Bieber, "With Arms Wide Open-Creed", "Star Strukk", "Like a G6- Far East Movement " and "Dance of DeathIron Maiden". For them, its not only about nailing the final performance, but also about

savouring every moment of the entire process from choreographing a piece to designing the costumes. This all-girl team comprises of 8 dedicated dancers- Dhara, Vijetha, Vijaitha, Ayshwarya, Divyapriya, Seema, Pretty and Anusha. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PULSE Pulse is a campus legend. Their upbeat hip-hop dance routines make your jaw drop as you stare at them while wondering if they are made of plastic. They experiment with a myriad of styles- Hip-Hop (B-boying and Lyrical), Salsa, MJ and Rock N Roll too! When we watched Pulse perform we felt the desire to join them! Most recently, theyve danced to a mashup of Tonight-Enrique, Blackberry boys, Buttons-The Pussycat Dolls, Blah blah blah-Kesha and Human nation-Sestosento. They play around with their songs on a music editor so that they can create fresh remixes. Their performances ooze attitude and confidence. When they finish dancing the audience always wants more. This years members are- Shreyanka, Anjali, Swathi, Neha, Samaay, Himanshu, Akshay, Shashibushan, Vikas and Deepak. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These dancers love to drown in the hustle and bustle of green rooms. They do not fear a huge critical audience and their souls feast on the sound of thunderous applause after a brilliant performance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
