Dear Vancouver Langara resident, Im pleased to bring you important news about our constituency, including the awarding of nearly $2 million in gaming grants to charitable organizations based in Vancouver Langara. As your MLA, I look forward to working with Premier Christy Clark, and all of you, as we work together to build a better BC that puts families first. U-Passes now available to Langara Students thanks, in part, to over $20 million the Province is investing through 2013 to support the program in Metro Vancouver. (June 2010) Child-care facilities in Vancouver - Langara impacted by lower enrolments (due to five-year-olds attending full-day kindergarten) received $8,591 to purchase new materials for younger learners. (March 2011) bCs new Civil Forfeiture law was used to seize a 5-bedroom grow-op house on west 53rd. The house was the most valuable house forfeited to the Province to date. (January 2011)

increasing minimum wage
British Columbias minimum wage will increase in three stages to $10.25 by may 1, 2012 and the training wage will be eliminated. The increase supports b.C. workers and families in every region of the province. By phasing in the increase in three stages, businesses will have time to plan ahead and adapt to the new rate.

Changes to Hst
Over the past two months, our government entered into an unprecedented listening and engagement exercise, with more than 275,000 people taking part in telephone town halls and responding to our HST survey. Changes to the HST include: reduce Hst from 12% to 10% in two steps. (to 11% by July 2012, to 10% by July 2014) one-time transition cheques to help those most affected by Hst. (Parents will receive $175 for each child. Seniors with family income under $40,000 will receive $175) temporary increase in corporate income tax from 10% to 12%. Planned reduction to the small business tax rate put on hold. Average family will save $120 with a 10% Hst.

A new, independent, civilian-led office will conduct criminal investigations into incidents that involve B.C. police officers and result in death or serious harm. The office will strengthen public faith in the brave men and women risking their lives to keep our communities safe.
