The Analytics Application from vendors like Oracle, IBM are generally available supporting its own software infrastructure like for Oracle its Oracle / Exadata / ODI / OBIEE, for IBM its DB2 / Netezza / Cognos / DataStage. What sort of assessment should an organization conduct in deciding whether to purchase a Data Warehouse Package? 5 key things to be considered are 1. Assess the current requirements. 2. Understand the current technology landscape in terms of the existing sources systems that provide data and the existing DW tools like database, ETL, reporting. 3. Determine the support of the DW package for the existing technology and tools. 4. Determine how much of requirements is met by the DW package. 5. Determine the effort required for the customization of the DW package.

Can data warehouse be used for strategic data warehousing initiatives given the generic nature of the underlying data model for these packages? The DW packages will require customization that address the specific strategic needs of an organization. The cost of a DW Package is a barrier not mentioned in your slide. Can you provide the order of magnitude costs of DW Packages (data model, ETL, tools, licensing, conversion, customizations, consulting, etc)? The benefits of a DW package will outweigh the cost in terms of faster implementation and earlier ROI. How much is the benefit and cost saving by using the DW package will vary from organization to organization. We definitely see many of the enquires from customers wanting to implement BI solution in weeks and evaluating DW packages as an option. Statistically we see more new ERP implementations getting coupled with DW packages, from our experience about 4 out of 5 customers implementing Oracle EBS are also implementing DW packages. How do DW packages support the conversion migration of data from existing DWs? DW packages generally have adapters to ERP systems, for migration of data from custom DW systems additional data migration process has to be built.

Is there a forum or group that he has information regarding what 'packaged solutions' are deployed across specific business lines (i.e. banks)?
