By American Specialty Ammo For this project you will need the following:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. ASA large fused payload cups (included in kit) Cardboard disks (included in kit) ASA 2 or 3 inch aluminum cases ( sold separately) ASA powder bushings (sold separately) 209 shotgun primers (sold separately) Rubber bands (included in kit) 10 - of flying fish fuse color A (included in kit) 10 - of flying fish fuse color B (included in kit) 10 - of crackling fuse color C (included in kit) (Colors will vary from kit to kit) 10. Hot glue gun 11. Razor blade box cutter (available at Wal-Mart) 12. 1 Tbs measuring spoon 13. 1/2 Tbs measuring spoon 14. FFFG Black powder or black powder substitute (Do not use measuring spoons for food after you use them to measure black powder charge) Step 1. IMPORTANT Read the directions in their entirety before starting project. Step 2. Gather everything on your supply list and set up a clean work area Page 1
Step 3. Preparing your 37mm case a. Turn your case upside down. Place a small piece of tissue paper or paper towel over the primer pocket. Push a 209 shotgun primer into the primer pocket. The paper will secure it in place. Do not use a hammer to ram primer in (it can cause it to fire). You can turn the case over and push down on a hard surface to seat primer. See Below
b. Place a small amount of glue around the inside base of the casing, then place the powder bushing in the case with the ASA side facing up. Make sure the bushing is seated on the bottom of the casing. Allow the glue to dry over night. Step 4. Preparing your fuse a. First cut the fuse into to 1 inch sections keeping colors A,B, and C separated (you want to use a sharp box cutter to cut the fuse so you do not crush the ends which can keep it from igniting. b. For a 250 foot altitudes use inch fuse sections. c. For a 450 foot altitudes use 1 inch fuse sections.

Step 5. Assembling the payload cup projectile a. Measure 45 grains of fffg black powder or black powder substitute and place in bottom of cup around fuse. b. Place equal amounts of fuse A, B, and C inside the tissue paper. Get as many of the fuse pieces facing up and down as you can. c. Place the paper disk on top of the tissue paper and push down. d. Fill the remaining room in the cup with hot glue. Glue should be at least inch thick. Let dry. e. Cut the fuse on the bottom of your cup at a 45 degree angle about inches long. Step 6. Assembling your 37mm cartridge a. Measure out your powder charge. For a 250 altitudes use 1 tablespoon (approximately 50 grains) of fffg black powder or black powder substitute. For a 450 altitude use 1.5 tablespoons (approximately 75 grains) of black powder or substitute. Max load on these cases is 80 grains. Do not exceed this!! Place the powder charge in powder bushing seated in prepared case. Make sure all the powder fits inside the bushing. DO NOT OVER FLOW. b. Place the rubber band around the payload cup in the bottom groove. This will hold your cup in place. Push down hard. Make sure the cup is seated firmly against the powder bushing. c. If the signal is to be used at a later date, you can use clear nail polish to seal around the payload cap and the hull as well as around the primer area. This helps keep moisture out. d. Your Cartridge is now ready to fire
