Hardcore Uno

Object of the game

To be the first player to get rid of all of their cards.

How to Play The person who feels like dealing may do so. If more than one person feels like dealing, the person who already has the cards, or who gets the cards first, deals. The cards must be shuffled and each player dealt 5 cards. The remainder of the deck is placed face down to form a pickup pile. The top card of the pickup pile is turned over to begin a discard pile. If the top card is an Action Card, it must be returned to the pickup pile and a different card turned over to begin the discard pile. Whoever places a correct card on the discard pile first gets the first play. The player has to match the card on the discard pile, either by number, colour or symbol. For example, if the card is a red 7, the player must put down a red card or any colour 7. The people immediately to the right and left of the first player both have the opportunity to play second. Whichever of these players places a correct card on the discard pile first gets to play second. Play continues from the second player in the direction away from the first player. If the player doesnt have a card to match the one on the discard pile, he must take a card from the pickup pile. If the card picked up can be played, the player is free to put it down in the same turn. Otherwise, play moves on to the next person in turn. Players may choose not to play a playable card from their hand. If so, the player must pick up a card from the pickup pile. If playable, that card can be put down in the same turn, but the player may not use a card from the hand after picking up. At any time in the game, if a player has the exact card as that on the top of the discard pile, he may cut in by playing the card. Play will then continue from this player, in the direction of previous play.
If the pickup pile is fully used up, the discard pile must be shuffled and used as a pickup pile, keeping the last card discarded in the discard pile to continue play.

Functions of the Action Cards Action Cards The functions of the Action Cards, and when they may be played, are set out below:
Pickup Two card: When this card is played, the next player must *pick up two cards and miss his turn. This card can be played on matching colours; on other Pickup Two cards; and on the Wild and Wild Pickup Four cards of matching colour. Reverse card: This card reverses the direction of play, and, if applicable, the consequence of other action cards back to the person who played before the Reverse card player. It can be played on matching colours; on other Reverse cards; and on Pickup Two, Wild and Wild Pickup Four cards of matching colour. Skip card: The next player after this card has been laid loses his turn. This card can also be used to cancel the effect of the Pickup Two and Wild Pickup Four Wildcard. It can be played on matching colours; on other Skip cards; and on Pickup Two, Wild and Wild Pickup Four cards of matching colour. Wild card: A person playing this card may call for any colour to continue the play, including the one currently being played, if so desired. The Wild card can be played at any time, but not in defence of other Action Cards.

Wild Draw Four card: A person playing this card may call for any colour to continue the play, including the one currently being played; and the next player *picks up four cards. This card can be played at any time, but not in defence of the Skip and Reverse cards.
*When Pickup Two and Wild Pickup Four cards are played in defence of picking up, the next player picks up the number of cards equal to the sum of all Pickup cards played.

Hardcore Action Cards These cards are played as normal cards, but affect the game as a whole, rather than only the next player: 0 The person playing this card must swap all his cards with another player. If the person ends on this card, he must give his win to another player. 6 Once this card is laid down, all players must place a hand on the discard pile. The last person to place their hand on the pile, or the last person remaining with their hand off the pile, picks up penalty cards. 7 When this card is laid down, all players must not talk until another 7 is played. The first person to talk after the card is played picks up penalty cards. Once someone has spoken, the 7 is disregarded and players may speak. Going out; Winning the Game When a player has one card left, he must say UNO. If a 7 is down and the player may not, legally, speak, he must flick his card in view of the other players. If the player does not say UNO, he must pick up 2 penalty cards a rule that only applies if another player catches the omission before the player plays his last card. The player who plays his last card first wins the game and is the 'winner'. The game ends, unless the players agree on continuing the game to determine the 'first loser' he who finishes his cards second. Penalties Penalty cards are obtained from the top of the pickup pile. 'Idiot cards' must be picked up by players who play out of turn; play incorrect cards; take too long to play; or place their hand on the discard pile when a 6 has not been played, if agreed by most other players. The number of penalty cards for each Hardcore Action Card penalty and for 'Idiot cards' depends on the number of players: 4 players: 5 cards; 5 players: 4 cards; 6+ players: 3 cards
