This branch is producing Scrubbers and Flippers for cleaning purpose. Flipper can be with either sheet meal or fiber plastic. The scrubbers are of many types. E430 (Works electrically) and B430 works on battery) are made the number 430 stands for the dimension of the brush and the capacity of the water tank.These are only polypropylene or nylon. E6050 is an old machine used only for local purpose and it is out dated. Model E350 and B350 are mostly for export purpose only. In this two brushes are available which made cleaning in both the directions. i.e., front and back directions are possible. Industrial vacuum cleaner is another product produced here. One is Dh30 has motor other is Dg70 which has two motors. Easy clean is the product used for home appliances. It is manual and used for small area cleaning.

The various processes under going in this branch are listed and explained. SHEARING It is process of cutting metal. The sheet can be of 1.5mm or 1mm or to the maximum of 3 mm thick. CRCS (cold rolled sheet metal), HRCS (heat rolled sheet metal), and aluminium are the various materials used. Press Break-Folding In this process the sheet metal are folded as per the requirement. Before folding the process of notching is performed this is nothing but cutting of edges for easy folding. Template (finished one with exact dimension) is there for comparison of dimension. These form the bottom part of the scrubber. For E430 it is got from outsource and leak

test is performed here and then given for assembly. For the sheet metal of thickness more than 3mm hand press is there for folding. Both numerically controlled press breaks which are manual and computer numerically controlled press breaks which are computerized are available here. Lathe drilling machine is used for fine finishing. WELDING Welding works are made with the help fixtures; this is used for making welding process easy. SLANDERING This process is for removing the unwanted protruding parts of the welding. This is just for pleasing appearance.

SPOT WELDING Spot Welding is a process of attaching two or more sheet metals by heating it in particular parts. Since welding is done only in a few parts it is called spot welding. TRACK SWEEP It is for cleaning the wide roads. It can be attached to tractor or JCB for cleaning purpose. Bruch size of 2250mm, and 1750mm are available. WIZARD

This is the final thing in the multiclean branch. It is of two types one is pump model and other one is tank model. In the former one, water is pumped out with the help of pumps but in the later case, water flows out of gravity. It is the three different kinds W44b, W34b, W24b. In this the value 44, 34, 24 stands for brush size. It is used for kitchen and home works alone. This principle of its operation is drum rotates and the brush collects water and stores it in the dirty water tank. This is an export product and exported to 21 different countries. For each country there is a specific colour. Thus the product manufactured and the process under going in the multiclean branch is discussed.

PRODUCTION SECTION: In this section two plants are producing various cast of automobiles parts about 80% and home appliance, textile automobiles parts about 20%. Casting are produced by the method of aluminum die-casting. All the machines employ all the three electrical, mechanical and electronic operations. Electrical current is first converted to mechanical movements which is controlled by electronic programming. Aluminum metal is melted at 660 degree. Then the molten metal is injected into the dies (which are nothing nut moulds made before casting with high precision) at very high temperature and pressure. Inside the mould the cast is formed. There are totally 18 machines in a plant. Here are 2 machines of 400 tons, 4 machines of 250 tons, 1 machine of 200 tons, 3 machines of 180 tons, 5 machines of 120 tons and finally three machines of 60 tons. The materials produced in the production section under goes qualitative testing in quality section. QUALITY SECTION: All the spare parts produced in the production department are tested in this section. There are three labs for testing the materials. Now we discuss in detail about three labs. X-RAY LAB: In this lab destructive of testing of components takes place. Interior errors like cracks, holes inside the casting can be found easily in this section by passing X-Rays through the component. Modern version or this X-Ray instrument can even find the dimension of the holes. Radiation leak in the lab can be found using radiation survey mater permitted range of radiation exposure is 20mR/ hour - 200mR/hour. SPECTRAL LAB:

At a particular load every material tends to break. The lead at which the particular materials break depends on its composition. For every metal there is a particular composition called as standard composition. Before casting a component, a sample should be produced. The sample should have a flat base. Initially the composition of the sample is found first and then compared with the standard composition. The deviation of 0.1% is allowed. If the composition is perfect then we can go for casting the components.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT The design and technical support department will be responsible for researching new products or modifications to existing ones, estimating costs for producing in different quantities and by using different methods. It will also be responsible for the design and testing of new product process and product types, together with the development of prototypes through to the final product. The technical support department may also be responsible for work study and suggestions as to how working practices can be improved. QUALITY DEPARTMENT: Roots are committed to manufactures customer-centric and technology driven products on par with international quality standards. For example, the horn manufactured

undergo a rigorous life-cycle test and are subjected to an endurance of over 2,00,000 cycle of performance while the industry norm requires only 1,00,000.

MARKETING DEPARTMENT Marketing is a human activity directed at the satisfying needs and wants

through an exchange process. The main aim of marketing is to make sales in order to earn reasonable profit. In Roots, marketing is basically done for the Cleaning products. General Manager heads the department. Marketing involves a range of process concerned with finding out what consumer want, and then providing it for them. Roots Industries India Ltd focus on 3 kinds of market for their products namely, 1. Original equipment market (OEM) 2. Replacement market i) Intrastate (within Tamilnadu) ii) Interstate (outside Tamilnadu) 3. Export oriented market HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT Roots has a strong people-oriented work culture that can be seen and felt across all its member concerns. Whether they work in group or in isolation, their effort is well appreciated and achievement well rewarded.

They have a sense of belonging and they revel in an environment of openness and trust. Cross functional teams function as one seamless whole and foster the true spirit of teamwork. In addition, staffs are also sponsored for need based training programmes at leading Management Development Institutes. PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT This module comprises of Production Planning. Here the first step is to generate the bill of material which shows the list of raw materials required for manufacturing goods. There are 2 main restrictions in production planning: 1. Before the production process starts, confirmation is given that all raw materials are in place. If its in place confirmation will be given. In case of rejection i.e. either one of the material is missing, then according to SAP package the step cannot be taken further. 2. Routing should be done. It explains place (where the production is going to take place), time (how many hours it will take to finish production cycle), shift (three shifts, each shift 8hrs).

All these are calculated using SAP. When these two restrictions are satisfied, production cycle is started. Once the cycle gets over next step is to check the quality of the produced goods. This is known as in house quality in SAP terms. If the quality is accepted, then next module begins. Bill of material confirm raw material availability routing production quality check.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

In ROOTS Industries India Ltd have an authorized person to take care of access control and security. His job is to assign role for the users of SAP software and also control the use of the software. Role is a set of transaction codes. Role restricts the user to certain fields. For example, the finance person or the FICO person (as per the terms of SAP) cannot access details of the material transactions taken care by the person authorized to take care of material management module in SAP. Each user will have a username and password to have access to area of transaction. The user has to enter that username and password to login to the specified screen in SAP. Once he or she logs in, he or she can do his or her work. Anyone other than the consigned users cannot access the SAP because after three wrong entries of passwords, it will get locked. After that even the original user cannot login. As the internet becomes the primary medium for electronic commerce and messaging, ROOTS Industries India Ltd need strong security for their internet application. iCert is a set of security services that enables the use of public key cryptography and digital certificates in distributed computing system. They are tools of

authentication, authorization and encryption in a variety of internet/intranet application including secure messaging and e-commerce. iCert services allow ROOTS to establish security domains in which they issue keys and certificates. Within these domains, it enables the use and management of encryption keys and certificates, key management, certificate management and policy management. It allows the organization to set up application security in a way that supports its business needs. Transport is a system which contains three landscapes to be precise, development, quality and production. Transport means recording of changes. Development means creation of new products. Quality is the testing of the developed products to verify whether it meets the quality requirements of the company and the last landscape is production i.e. manufacturing of the developed and tested product. All the other big organizations have adopted all three landscapes but ROOTS Industries India Ltd has implemented only two landscapes.
