AutoCAD P&ID
What customers said was important
Easy training: Familiar AutoCAD tools and commands Quick editing: Drawing objects inherit relationships Data checking: Highlights changes between drawing and external data Sharing: Data travels with the drawing Reporting: Tools for managing drawings and generating reports Company standards: Comprehensive symbol library that allows customization

AutoCAD P&ID
What we built to satisfy those needs
A version of AutoCAD not an add-on Uses AutoCAD commands for Ease of Use Tools for quick creation / modification of drawings & lists Information / Data is stored inside the drawing (DWG) Bi-directional operation with Excel or use API to connect to other external data sources. Standard symbols in the box plus easy symbol creation tools

AutoCAD 3D Plant
Press release
September 2007 Mark Strassman VP Plant Solutions Upfront .eZINE News
Also due next year is 3D Plant Piping, also running on AutoCAD. It uses technology that was acquired, developed in-house, and borrowed from Inventor and MEP [mechanical, electrical, plumbing].
The recently-acquired NavisWorks will be linked to provide visualization, walk-throughs, and clash detection. There'll also be a link to Inventor, which can provide the frameworks for the pipes.
