SPECIFICATION DETAILS
SHORT SPECIFICATION: (To appear on all drawings) All concrete (specify areas) to be constructed in accordance with the drawings, and strictly in accordance with current Cementaid Everdure Caltite System Detailed Specifications, using not less than 335 Kgs of Ordinary Portland Cement per cubic metre (or as per Detailed Specification for blended cements), and having a W/C Ratio not in excess of 0.42, and achieving a Water Absorption rating of not more than 1% (one percent) w/w of concrete when tested in accordance with BSS 1881 Part 122, 1983, except that the age at test shall be 7 days, in conjunction with structural reinforcement of hard rib deformed bars and top steel reinforcement grid and other details conforming to current recommendations and requirements of Cementaid.
DETAILED SPECIFICATION:
Concrete:
All concrete must conform to current National Standard Specifications and be designed WITHOUT ADDITIVES, for a F'c of 32MPa, or greater, if required by the Engineer, at slumps not greater than 100mm. Concrete mixes using OPC or blended cements / supplementary cementitious materials, shall incorporate the following minimum cementitious contents at a W/C Ratio not in excess of 0.42 maximum;
The correct mix / cement content should be stated on the concrete delivery dockets. N.B. The responsibility for ensuring the minimum cement content is contained in the concrete, always rests with the contractor.
Admixtures:
All concrete shall contain CEMENTAID Everdure Caltite, heavy duty impermeability ingredient, at the rate of 30 litres per cu.m. In addition, CEMENTAID Superplastet shall be included at a rate of 0.5-1.5 % w/w OPC, according to ambient temperature or as recommended by CEMENTAID. No other admixtures or ingredients are to be included or allowed for in the concrete unless specifically authorised by CEMENTAID in writing. Water contents are to be reduced accordingly to allow for the effects of the ingredients on the concrete slump, and the concrete is to be mixed thoroughly. The concrete producer, with CEMENTAID present, shall mix and test a trial mix of concrete with the Everdure Caltite System ingredients, to satisfy the Engineer that the enhanced concrete conforms to strength, slump and other requirements.
Slump:
Concrete must not be placed with a slump greater than 160mm or less than 50mm. Flowing concretes with slumps greater than 160mm are only allowed when the mix design is altered to accommodate such flowing slumps, with the Engineer's approval.

Not all concrete suppliers are automatically approved for Everdure Caltite System quality concrete. The contractor should check with the CEMENTAID Manager for approved producers before ordering concrete. CEMENTAID approval does not remove responsibility for basic concrete quality or minimum cement contents from the concrete producer or the contractor.
Reinforcement:
All reinforcement shall be rib deformed bar, to Engineer's requirements and detail drawings.
Re-Entrant Angles:
Where re-entrant angles occur, two, 12mm bars spaced apart must be placed top and bottom at 90 across the angles. Joints & Penetrations: All construction joints and penetrations in the concrete must be formed and constructed in strict accordance with current CEMENTAID recommended details and materials.
Placing:
Concrete shall not be placed at temperatures below 4 C, nor above 35 C and must be placed according to current Codes of Practice and CEMENTAID recommendations. Care shall be taken to fill every part of the forms, to force concrete under and around reinforcing without displacing it, to work back coarse aggregate from the face and to remove all air bubbles and voids. Concrete which cannot be placed free from honeycombs shall be rejected by the contractor. Compaction shall be assisted by sufficient number of approved immersion type vibrators. These shall not be held against forms or reinforcing steel, nor used for flowing the concrete or spreading into place. Vibrators shall not be held in one place so long as to result in segregation of concrete materials or formation of laitance on the surface.
Finishing:
Concrete shall be brought to a fine dense finish using a mechanical trowel. The steel trowelled finish may then be roughened if required for subsequent applied finishes/traction.
Site Attendance:
A representative of CEMENTAID is to be in attendance on site during all Everdure Caltite pours. This company being notified at least 24 hours before work commences and at each stage of the proceedings. Such site attendance does not constitute supervision, which remains the responsibility of the contractor.
Slab Thickness:
Slab thickness are to be as specified and not less than 150mm. Variations would be the subject of discussions with the Engineer.
