The Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg has added three new historical and genelogical databases to its library. The databases include: QuakerMeetings, Civil War: in words and Deeds and Freedom Riders in the South, 1961. QuakerMeetings is a database that documents efforts to record historical information about every monthly meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. This database records more than 2,000 meetings that has never existed in North America before. Civil War: in Words and Deeds is a database of more than 144,000 images that document the Civil War through regimental histories, personal narratives and other historical sources between 1860 and 1865. The database includes useful sources and information that can aid historians and genealogists with local and Civil War history. Freedom Riders in the South, 1961 is from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Library and is a database containing documents that describe the journey of civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated South in protest of racial segregation. This resource celebrates the Congress of Racial Equality Freedom Riders 50th anniversary. For more information about the three new databases added to the library and other resources the Thomas Balch Library offers go to http://www.leesburgva.gov under the vistors tab and click libraries.
