Science Discussion

My results told me that pot 1s plant did not grow at all, pot 2s plant did not grow at all but later we inspected the plant and the seed had not germinated very well. Pot 3 grew the most with a height of 7cm. Pot 4 grew 0.4cm then died, and Pot 5 grew the second tallest at a height of 4cm, but part of the plant turned black which was most likely cause by the salinity level (as it had the highest) Pot 1 and 2 had unlucky seeds which did not sprout and turned bad, Pot 3 grew the most at 7cm, Pot 4 grew less than 1cm then died (most likely because of the salinity level) The results I received did not match my hypothesis, because I guessed that the plants with lower salinity level would grow taller because the soil would be unaffected by the salt. Although since we only tested one for each solution the results accuracy could have been improved by increasing the quantity of pots tested (per solution) This research could be used if a new island/farm was used to grow crops. People could test the soil with test plants before the land was purchased to check if the soil was not affected with high salinity levels and our results could impact on whether or not people decide to grow broad bean plants with a low salinity level. I can predict that some salinity levels could have a positive effect rather a negative, because according to my results the plant that grew the most did not have the most, nor the least salt contamination but rather the mid-range one. Some predictions I can make about Australias rising salinity levels are: Australia will continue to lose money each year and will not make the most out of the countrys crops, but eventually the salt will stop rising, for now I believe we should focus on growing plants which are not affected by salinity levels. I think that in the future scientists should test crops and modify them so that they can adapt to the salty conditions, they could even modify them so that the salt increases grow speed, therefore Australia will make even more money and the problem with salinity will be solved. Conclusion I learn that higher salinity levels could be better than no salt in the soil at all and that: more test subjects-more accurate results.
