5. NOTES ON USAGE

1. INTRODUCTION
1) S-737 is the inactive(neutral) type flux which is applicable to electrodes of all kinds such as mild and high tensile and low alloy electrodes and others because little alloying takes from S-737 flux. 2) S-737 is the basic agglomerated flux, it can be obtained the good notch toughness of weld metal in combination with the electrode H-14, and H-14 is the electrode correspond to AWS A5.17 EH14. 3) S-737 is good porosity resistibility and insensitive to rust and dirts. 4) In case of horizontal welding, bead appearance and slag detachability are good. 5) S-737 is applicable to both AC and DC(+).

5. NOTES ON USAGE 1) When the flux has absorbed moisture, dry it at 250300 for 1hr. before use. In this case, keep the height of flux spread about 35mm. 2) Remove oil, rust, paint, scale, water, dirts and slag of tack welds from the groove in order to get sound welds. 3) The use of the flux which has been re-used for welding in many times may cause deterioration of its usability. Therefore, the un-used flux should be mixed properly with such used flux. 4) In case of high speed welding increases the tendency for porosity, cracking, arc-blow, undercut and uneven bead shapes. So, recommend as followings in order to achieve joint of high quality and good appearance. ) Use the welding current of positive-polarity DC. ) Use the welding wire of smaller diameters. ) Keep the welding voltage a little lower. ) Keep as low as possible height of flux spread without exposed arc. 5) For the sake of preventing internal cracks, recommend rations of width of each individual bead to depth of fusion are between 1 to 1 and 1.25 to 1. 6) In case of multi-layer welding, adopt low current, low voltage and low speed to the root in the groove to prevent hot cracking and obtain good slag removal. 7) In case of horizontal butt welding, if possible, keep the welding voltage less than 28 voltage. 8) In case of multi-layer welding of high tensile steel with comparatively low current and heavy constraint, keep the preheat and interpass temperature at 50100 for 50 and 60kg/ class high tensile steel for the sake of preventing cracking.
