Two (2) Tripping Brackets Port & Stbd at Frame 41-42, 7700 Elev. - bracket's fillet welds to Transverse Bulkhead Fr.41 found one side welded only and fractured. Affected welds to be gouge and rewelded to the satisfaction of the attending Surveyor. the approved welding procedure by qualified welders, examined, and all considered satisfactory.

Rectification (Full ) Affected fillet welds were gouged out at full length and re-welded. Welding was carried out in accordance with

Low Skew Bronze Propeller key fit type found with loosen fitting and erroded. Rope guard found missing. The propeller was dismantled, NDT examined and found as follows: Surface of all five (5) blades eroded at blade's Zone C - 0.95R and on suction side in way of top end of trailing edge; maximum wear area - approx. 300 x 40 mm. Two (2) blades found with surface fractures at approximately length 60 mm at blade filled area - pressure side - Zone A. Four (4) blades found with surface isolated fractures at 0.4 R to 0.7 R area - Zone B at suction side. The key found broken. All tapered hub contact surface area between hub and shaft found smashed and fractured. Fracture's depth found up to 3 mm.

Recommendation Rectification (Partial )

The propeller to be repaired and dealt with as applicable in accordance with requirements of ABS Rules to satisfaction of the attending Surveyor. Damaged propellers (main and spare) were re-examined by ABS Surveyor at approved propeller's manufacture and repair facility. Propeller's permanent repair fulfilling requirements of ABS Rules has been considered not feasible. Temporary repair of spare propeller - CCS marking FZ0SP00042-1 was carried out and accepted. For further details please refer to ABS report no. RO 1106288. The temporary repaired propeller back installation has been carried out as follows: (1) Pre - mounting and dismantling (blue-fit) of key type fitting propeller and spare shaft was witnessed and all found satisfactory. New key was fabricated in accordance with as built drawing. (2) The propeller back installation including protection against corrosion and securing has been verified and all found satisfactory. (3) The propeller forward end seal including seal sleeve was renewed in accordance with as built drawing and all arrangement found satisfactory. (4) Rope guard was fitted and found in order. (5) Performance of the propulsion system was satisfactory demonstrated at rated speed during vessel sea trials and no excessive vibration was noted. Repair considered as temporary only.

Recommendation

Temporary repaired propeller to be replaced with new one and to be dealt with to satisfaction of the attending Surveyor prior crediting Annual Machinery Survey 4. During the interim period until the new propeller is installed: 1. Satisfactory performance and verification of the propulsion system to be carried out regularly, by the vsl's chief engineer, and entries to be made to the vsl's logbooks. 2.
