Vision Statement
As a community working together toward the preservation and enhancement of Stratfords diverse landscape and natural habitat, the Stratford and Area Watershed Improvement Group will foster interest and participation in watershed planning. Stratford and Area Watershed Improvement Group envision that as a community, area residents will work together to sustain the quality and quantity of fresh water available for the benefit of future generations.. agricultural sector, landowners, government representatives, as well as various local organizations. The result of both the executive council and public meetings is a list of concerns and goals to be addressed by the watershed. A Watershed Coordinator was subsequently hired to develop the Management Plan for the Town of Stratford and participating surrounding areas. Large Landscape Issues: Coastal, Agricultural and Forested e.g. Buffer Zones, Wetland Preservation, Acadian Forest Restoration and Enhancement Tree Planting in over 10km of Buffer Zone (Jenkins Pond, Reddin Springs, Brehauts Creek) in 2009-2010 Forestry Professional has developed Forest Management Plans for members of watershed (ongoing) Free Bathouses and Birdhouses Distribution in 2010 Wetland Enhancement 2011
Introduction
Stratford Area Watershed Improvement Group (SAWIG) was incorporated in Water Lily 2009 when it became evident a community organization was required to manage the regions water resources. It was formed by a group of community members concerned with the health and sustainability of the Stratford watershed area. The process began with regularly held meetings among interest groups; these included members of the
