Admissions Procedure for Applicants with foreign certificates

I) General Information The University Kiel is a member of "Application Service for International Students" (UNIASSIST) e.V. UNI-ASSIST. That means that applicants with foreign certificates will have to send their application to UNI-ASSIST. All applications will be pre-checked against payment for the completeness of all required documents. Then the applicants data will be entered into a new computer system. T his means that your application will be pre-processed against payment by UNI-ASSIST. You will be able to apply simultaneously at multiple UNI-ASSIST Universities by submitting just one set of certified copies. You will find the universities belonging to UNI-ASSIST in the internet under: www.uni-assist.de/Hochschulen. Thus, the CAU is able to improve the service and advice for our international students. Moreover, we are able to carefully review the academic background of each applicant. Please read the following information carefully: International applicants apply for a course of study at UNI-ASSIST: Application deadline is July 15 (preclusion period), for the winter semester and January 15 (preclusion period), for the summer semester. We would like to ask you to forward your application for the winter semester until June 15 and for the summer semester until December 15. This allowes us to deal with your enquiries about your application and to process your application as soon as possible. The application forms can also be downloaded at www.uni-assist.de. Please notice that you still have to send your application documents via mail to Uni-ASSIST. To apply ONLY online is NOT sufficient! Please, download your application form for international students that you will find on our web site. If you have an E-Mail address, please include this on your application. In case of any inquiries, we will be able to contact you. At UNI-ASSIST all applications will be pre-checked for the completeness of all required documents. Then the applicants data will be entered into a new computer system. The universities will then inform you.

Stiftung fr Hochschulzulassungen - courses If you wish to apply to one of the Stiftung fr Hochschulzulassungen-courses of study, EU/EWR citizens and German applicants have to apply with Stiftung fr Hochschulzulassungen. The Stiftung fr Hochschulzulassungen-courses that start in the winter semester are: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Psychology. Application deadline is the 31st of May for students who received their qualification for admission for higher education before the 16th of January 2007. Application deadline is July the 15th for students who received their qualification for admission for higher education after 15th of January 2007. For the summer semester the following applies in the course of pharmacy: All applications must arrive before the 15th of January. Further information under: www.hochschulstart.de Payment and Money Transfer UNI-ASSIST charges EUR 68,- for examining a non EU member application and EUR 43,- for an EU member application to an UNI-ASSIST university. Applicants wishing to apply to multiple uni-assist universities will be charged an additional EUR 15,- for each additional UNIASSIST university they are applying to. A current list of all UNI-ASSIST universities can be found under:

Your application to UNI-ASSIST will be processed only after receiving your payment. In order to accelerate the pre-check of your application at UNI-ASSIST, please include a copy of the transfer voucher of your bank with the application, indicating the date and the amount of money tranferred to UNI-ASSIST.

A purpose of payment - for instance- could look like this: 12.11.1985, Mongolia, Baatur Iwan.

If you have already received an application number issued by uni-assist, please do also indicate this number in the "purpose of payment." If you transfer the money from a foreign bank account , please consider additional fees that might be charged for international money transfers.

Should you hold a bank account with a German bank, you can use the form Single Debit Authorization (please, use the form debit/credit card) to pay. To do so, the holder of the account has to sign the form. You can also pay by credit card (VISA or Mastercard, please use the form debit/credit card).

In order to facilitate the payment of charges it is possible for you to make your payment via Western Union. If you would like to use this service, please deposit your payment and the service fee charged by Western Union at an agent location (www.westernunion.com) of your choice. It is of major importance that you name Marion Schneider as the receiver of your payment! After transferring your payment, please send us an e-mail (westernunion@uni-assist.de) or a fax (+49-30-66644390) indicating your full name the ten-digit code number of your money transfer (MTCN) your country of citizenship your date of birth and your uni-assist applicant number. As soon as your payment is booked to the account of uni-assist e.V. you will receive an email confirmation and your application can be processed. Please note, that with regard to your money transfer uni-assist e.V. is not liable for any problems that might occur due to incorrect information or other mistakes. In case we should not receive your payment for any reason, your application cannot be processed. For further information on Western Union please go to www.westernunion.com.

Application procedure for international students: II) For admission to the first semester Certified copies of the following documents and their translations must accompany the application form for admission. Certificates in English need not be translated. Please do not send us originals, as the enclosed copies will be destroyed in case your application is rejected. Please include a copy of your passport with your application (we require only the page stating

name, date of birth etc.) and a copy of the transfer voucher of your bank, indicating the date and the amount of money transferred to UNI-ASSIST. Certificate of completed schooling which qualifies the applicant to study at a university in his or her home country, including an overview of grades and subjects; Report or certificate of a university entrance examination passed in a foreign country and/or proof of registration from a university (including a complete list of grades), if applicable; University transcripts including a list of subjects and grades, if applicable; Transcript of the assessment test passed at a Studienkolleg in Germany, including an overview of grades, if applicable; "Curriculum vitae", including a complete overview of the applicant`s education; Verification of proficiency in German is a prerequisite for admission to a course of study. Kiel University considers the following documents to be sufficient verification of proficiency: 1. Abitur certificate or university entrance qualification obtained at a German school, 2. Certificate that an assessment test has been passed at a Studienkolleg in Germany, 3. Deutsches Sprachdiplom (Certificate of Proficiency in German) from the Conference of the Secretaries of Education and Cultural Affairs - Level II, 4. "Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom (First Certificate of Proficiency in German) or "Groes Deutsches Sprachdiplom" (Advanced Certificate of Proficiency in German) awarded by the Goethe Institute on behalf of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, or certificate of the "Zentrale Oberstufenprfung" (Central Advanced Examination in German) by the Goethe Institute. 5. Certificate of the PNdS - Verification of Proficiency in German by a German university, by the International Studienzentrum Heidelberg or by the kumenisches Studienwerk Bochum based on the regulations set up by the Conference of the Secretaries of Education and Cultural Affairs, or proof that the "German Language Test for University Admission of International Students" ("Deutsche Sprachprfung fr den Hochschulzugang auslndischer Studienbewerber (DSH-2)" has been passed with at least level "2". 6. Test-DAF with at least the grade 4 in all examination areas.

Certificate of the DSH-2 Only for applicants from PR China, Vietnam and Mongolia Applications from China, Vietnam and Mongolia will only be accepted if the certificate from the Academic Examination Board is enclosed (no copies). On receipt of our letter of admission, you may apply for your visa at the Academic Examination Board. This avoids asking for an appointment at the visa office. The application for an academic examination as well as the application for a visa has to be addressed to the responsible Academic Examination Board in your country. Due to the large number of applicants for the German language course, a Bachelor`s degree is requested as a prerequisite for admission.

III) Admission to the second semester or higher Applicants can only be admitted if there is a vacancy. Should there be more applicants for vacant spots, there will be a selection procedure according to 16 AVO ("Auswahlverordnung")

Students changing universities within Germany Applicants from other German Universities wishing to study in a higher semester at the CAU do apply accordingly to the achieved performance level. Applicants can also apply for the continuous semester within the standard period of study. Enrollment will be for the respective semester of admission.

Please forward with your application all documents mentioned in II. and:

1. Certificate of enrollment (original or certified copy) including:

course of study and degree number of subject-related semesters date of (first) enrollment 2. Certificates of e.g. participation in compulsory exams, pre-diploma, certificate of intermediate examination

Certificates received after the application deadline can be forwarded until Sept. 1st for the winter semester and until March 1st for the summer semester. After ranking the applicants, delayed applicants will be considered in a subordinate ranking. Please announce the certificates handed in later by adding this on a separate sheet of paper (DIN-A4-Sheet).

Applicants changing their course of study or would like to take credit for courses studied abroad Applicants who would like to register for a higher semester of a different course of study and have not been enrolled in that specific programm in Germany yet, please forward with your application all documents mentioned in II and:

1. Certificate of enrollment (original or certified copy) including: o course of study and degree o number of subject-related semester 2. Recognition of studies + qualifications for the applied semester. Prerequisite is that study periods and achievements can be recognized. Please get in touch with the relevant examination office. IV) Admission to a master programme Applicants who want to apply for a master programme also have to send their application documents to Uni-ASSIST Christian-Albrechts-Universitt zu Kiel c/o Uni-ASSIST e.V. Helmholtzstr. 2-9 D - 10587 Berlin Only applications for the following postgraduate courses are excluded from this procedure: LL.M., LL.M. int., Material Sciences, Climate Physics, Digital Communications, Environmental Management, Biological Oceanography, Quantitative Economics.

Please take into consideration that it is not possible to derive the right of admission from these information.

V) Admission to a further study It is possible to apply to a further study for everyone who has finished a course of study at a German university and has a certificate about the successful degree of his academic studies up to the time of the application.

The university is not allowed to account for certificates which are issued after the application deadline.

It is only possible to apply for admission to one course of study (Bachelor and Master for a subject combination).

examination performance of the first degree number of subject-related semesters till final examination Reasons for further study

A common valid measure is calculated from these criteria.

written motivation for applying for a further study certificate of the first degree with final score proof of your home institution about the standard period of study of your first degree confirmation of duration of first degree
