Townships will contribute $20,000 per mile toward Federal/State aid projects
using Surface Transportation Project funds requiring a local match.
The only project requiring this Township cost share contributions are gravel
roads being built for blacktop under Federal/State Aid system.

PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE RELATIVE TO TOWNSHIP ROAD COMMISSION


PROJECTS
Townships shall contact the Manager in writing, formally requesting soil borings, estimates,
and township contracts. For reconstruction projects, the Gladwin County Road Commission
requires 12 to 18 months lead time to get the project surveyed, to complete preliminary
engineering, permits and public hearings.
Once a township makes a written request for the reconstruction of a roadway, the manager
will give a preliminary estimate. Upon receipt of the preliminary estimate; the township will
respond by a written commitment to proceed with preliminary engineering and construction.
At this point, after the written commitment, if a township changes its mind and decides not to
proceed with construction, the road commission will bill the township for the preliminary
engineering completed.
The resolution was supported by Commissioner Pettit and carried by the following roll call
vote.

"Commissioner Edick moved to adopt the following: Resolution to adopt a Gladwin
County Road Commission cost-share program with Townships and others.
WHEREAS, It is the responsibility of the Gladwin County Road Commission to establish a
cost share program for improvements within the county road system.
NOW THERE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Gladwin County Road Commission will adopt
the following program.
TYPE OF WORK

COST TO TOWNSHIP

1. Brine-Township Program
(Township needs to request brine in advance)
Brine - Private Program
(Maximum times a road can be brined
in one season is 4 times. Also a minimum
segment of road brining is 1/ mile.

65% of actual cost


$110.00 Single Pass
$225.00 per mile
$155.00 per!4 mile

Road Commission will only participate in 2 brinings per year. The Township would
pay 100% for the 3rd brining. Private Program: The road commission will only
participate in 2 brinings. All extra brinings will be charged at a cost that includes
all labor & equipment expense and material costs.
NOTE: "Private Program" means brine paid for by someone other than the township but
applied on a certified county road.
2. Re-graveling of existing roads

$ 7.25 per cubic yard


Recommend minimum of 1200 CY/ mile.
Prefer 1600 CY/mile.

3. Reconstruction of Local Road for Gravel


65% of Actual Construction Cost
or for Bituminous Pavement (does not

4. Reconstruction of Primary Road for Gravel

6. Street Name Signs and Specialty Signs
