B. Telling Obligations (menyatakan Kewajiban)

Obligation adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk menyatakan sebuah kewajiban. 


Kewajiban adalah sesuatu yang harus dikerjakan. Bila dilanggar, si pelaku akan 
mendapatkan konsekuensi. Dalam menyatakan kewajiban atau obligation, kita
biasanya  menggunakan kata Must/ have to. 

Terkadang kita bisa menggunakan "have to" untuk menggantikan Must: 

Pola dalam Obligation menggunakan

a. Must/have to
 Kalimat Positive (+)
Subject + must/have to + Verb1
Subject + have/has to + Verb1

Contoh:

- Students must wear scout uniform every Saturday. (Siswa harus memakai seragam
pramuka setiap hari Sabtu)  
- He must practice well to win this competition. (Dia harus berlatih dengan baik untuk
memenangkan lomba ini)
- Students have to wear scout uniform every Saturday. (Siswa harus memakai seragam
pramuka setiap hari Sabtu)  
- He has to practice well to win this competition. (Dia harus berlatih dengan baik untuk
memenangkan lomba ini)

 Kalimat Negatif (-)

Subject + must + not + Verb1


Subject + don’t / doesn’t / didn‘t + have to + Verb1

Contoh:
- The students mustn’t (must not) come late. (Para pelajar tidak boleh datang
terlambat.)
- You mustn’t (must not) play with fire. (Kamu tidak boleh bermain api.)
- We don’t have to go to school tomorrow. (Kita tidak perlu pergi ke sekolah besok.)
- She doesn’t have to work anymore. (Dia tidak perlu bekerja lagi.)
- He didn’t have to do that for me. (Dia tidak perlu melakukan itu untukku.)

Must + Subject + Verb1 + ?


Do/does/did + subject + have to?
Contoh:

- Must you buy a phone every year? (Haruskah kamu membeli telepon genggam


setiap tahun?)
- Do you have to speak English at work?
(Apakah kamu harus berbicara bahasa Inggris di kantor?)
- Does she have to speak English at work? (Apakah dia harus berbicara Bahasa
Inggris di kantor?)
- Did he have to speak English at work? (Apakah dia harus berbicara Bahasa Inggris
di kantor?)

b. S + must  be + Adjective/noun/adverb

 Kalimat Positive (+)


Subject + must  be + Adjective/noun/adverb
- You must be calm in the classroom (Kamu harus tenang di dalam kelas)
- Amar must be angry. (Amar pasti marah)

 Kalimat Negatif (-)


Subject + must + not +  be + Adjective/noun/adverb
Contoh:
You must not be lazy (Kamu tidak boleh malas)

Contoh:

- Must I be calm in the classroom? (haruskah aku tenang di dalam kelas ?)


- Must Amar be angry? (Haruskah Amar marah?)
