Lincoln County School District #2 Job Description Bus Driver DEFINITION To represent Lincoln County School District #2 Transportation

Department in the daily transporting of students to and from school and all related functions. Assures the mission and philosophy of the district and department are supported throughout the positions area of responsibility. Assists and supports the school district and central administration in providing a safe educational environment. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Mental Ability: Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations. Must know and apply Wyoming rules and laws of the road. Ability to recognize mechanical problems that would require stopping the bus to prevent damage or potential accident while driving. Ability to read gauges on the dash of the bus and recognize indicators of problems. Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and verbal instructions. Possess sound emotional judgment. Ability to operate a two-way radio. Education, License, Certification, or Formal Training: Appropriate CDL license with P and S endorsements. Attend and successfully complete annual transportation training requirements on CPR, First Aid, and Student discipline. The school district will require a complete Wyoming DOT physical examination by an accredited physician, documented on forms provided by the school district, attesting to the physical ability of the individual to operate a motor vehicle transporting children. Equipment Used: Must be able to operate the following equipment without assistance: Automobile School Bus Two-Way Radio Fuel Pump Pressure Washer Squirt Bottle Window Scraper Physical Demands: Assist students with various physical abilities as necessary. Run a wheel chair lift, if necessary, closing door and placing lift in travel position. Sufficient strength to turn steering wheel of a school bus with no difficulty. Possess physical capability to drive a bus and withstand the demands of a possible rough road on a daily basis. Ability to kneel on ground to check under bus before each route is started. Ability to open and close non-air operated entrance doors on a bus, when equipped, several times a day.

Environmental Demands: Exposure to weather extremes from minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit to positive 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Frequent exposure to loud noises. Frequent exposure to inhalation of engine exhaust fumes. Exposure to cleaning solvents, aerosol sprays, diesel and gasoline. Moderate exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals. Occupationally exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Maintain a State of Wyoming or State of Idaho, if residing in the Freedom or West Auburn areas, with passenger and school bus endorsements and follow its requirements. Maintains current DOT physical certificate. Uses effective verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction skills when working with students, parents, and all district personnel at all times. Maintains accurate records of route and time for payroll purposes. Maintains student discipline on the bus, utilizing the districts discipline procedures. Maintains a clean bus, both on the exterior and interior. Demonstrates sincere interest in children and their welfare. Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff or parents/guardians in any public setting and chooses the appropriate time, place and supervisors to discuss problems with. Promotes safety throughout the department. OTHER FUNCTIONS Passes CPR and First Aide training. Completes paperwork requirements within time parameters established. Attends training classes as scheduled. Arrives a minimum of thirty minutes prior to departure to perform daily vehicle inspection and inform the mechanics when problems are identified. Adjusts arrival time to account for weather. Washes and fuels bus as required. Operates two-way radio at all times while driving. Monitors radio at all times while driving. Utilizes proper procedures, provided through training, when handling body fluids. Perform such duties as the Transportation Director may require insuring efficient and safe operation of school programs to students and staff. Other duties as assigned.
