COURSE SYNOPSIS Organization and description of data: pie chart, bar chart, frequency distribution, cumulative frequency distribution, histogram, frequency polygon and ogive. Measures of central tendency and measures of variation: mean, median, mode, mean deviation, variance and standard deviation. Probability: random trials, basic concepts of probability, conditional probability, counting rule, permutation and combination. Random variables: discrete random variable, continuous random variable, expected value and variance. Special distribution and sampling distribution: Bernoulli distribution, binomial distribution, binomial experiment, Poisson distribution, normal distribution and tdistribution. Sampling distribution (sampling from Bernoulli and normal distribution). Normal approximation to the binomial. Estimation: point estimation, interval estimation. Hypothesis testing: one-tailed test and two-tailed test for mean of a normal population, general population and binomial population. Confidence interval and hypothesis testing for the difference in mean of two samples.
