Keep Your Health with the Oriental Alternative Medicine

The interest toward the alternative medicine is rising all over the world with the expansion of the well-being trend. Following the current trend, the Yeoksam Global Village Center is planning an oriental medicine class with an expert. Did you know that our feet are a miniature representation of the human body? In this program, you will learn about pressure points in feet related to our body and try a foot massage. This class will be a wonderful opportunity to experience oriental alternative medicine and learn about ways to keep your body healthy. Volunteer at St. Marys Hospital

Volunteer at St. Marys Hospital with the Yeoksam Global Village Center! On Saturday, August 20 from 10:00 to12:00, the volunteer group will pay its 18th visit to St. Marys Hospital in Gangnam to help with the preparation of medical kits and to spend time with young patients. Those of you who have interest in music, magic, arts or other recreational activities to share with children are welcome to join us!! (No prior experience required) Please join us and get involved in your local community. Andong Hahoe Mask Making Class

The Yeoksam Global Village Center is hosting a cultural program where you can learn about Korean Culture by making Andong Hahoe Tal (masks) on August 26th. Andong is a city in Gyeongsangbuk-do, southeast of Korea, and has the largest number of cultural properties in Korea. The time-honored city holds both tangible cultural heritages such as the ancient village as well as intangible ones such as Andongs traditional play. Its theatrical performance is dynamic and enjoyable and usually staged at annual festivals in Andong. Tal in Chinese character refers to a face, a face tool, a fake head, a mask, or an alternative face. The Hahoe mask is one of precious cultural heritages in Korea. Among various types of Korean masks, only Hahoe masks are designated as a national treasure (No. 121; 2 Pyongsan masks included). They are appraised worldwide as a masterpiece of mask art. 2011 SGCs 6th Foreigners Flea Market -Special Flea Market of Secondhand BooksAre your shelves groaning under the weight of books you haven't touched in ages? Looking to clear a little space for new additions? Come and share your love of a good story with fellow expats and Seoul residents at the Seoul Global Center's 6th Foreigners' Flea Market of 2011. This month's market is for the sale of secondhand books only. Vendors must be foreign nationals or part of a team including foreign nationals. For Korean citizens who wish to participate as vendors, please apply on the website of the Ttukseom Beautiful Flea Market (http://www.flea1004.com). The Beautiful Flea Market is a flea market that encourages people to buy and use more second-hand goods and to increase the value of recycling. Some of the proceeds will go to charity for our neighbors in need. Please follow our general rules for vendors to make your experience more enjoyable. The number of items for sale is limited 40 secondhand books (less than 5 copies of the same book) For more people to participate, only one booth will be given to each team. Please donate at least 10% of your proceeds.

Making Soondubu Jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) & Goongjung Tteokbokki

The Yeoksam Global Village Center is hosting a Korean cooking class on Tuesday, August 30th. Soondubu jjigae (Tofu Stew) is a hot and spicy dish made with uncurdled dubu (tofu), seafood (oysters, mussels, clams and shrimp are commonly used), vegetables, mushrooms, onions, scallions, and gochujang or gochu garu (chili powder). Tteokbokki is a popular Korean snack food, and Goongjung Tteokbokki (Royal court rice cakes) is an original form of modern tteokbokki. It was a dish served in the royal court and regarded as a representative example of haute cuisine. The ingredients of this stir-fried dish include garaetteok (cylinder-shaped rice cake), beef, mung bean sprouts, green onions, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and onions, and it is seasoned with soy sauce.
