Rite for the Burial of the Dead Charlotte Sisinger August 23, 1923-May 28, 2011 Foster Funeral

Home June 2, 2011 Rev. Raymond H. Vance, Pastor P: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of all mercy and the God of all consolation. For He comforts us in all our sorrows so that we can comfort others in their sorrows with the consolation we ourselves have received from God. Thanks be to God. Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by Baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. O God of grace and glory, we remember before you today the life of Charlotte Sisinger. We thank you for giving her to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us your help, so we may see in death the gate to eternal life. Protect us so that we may continue our course on earth in confidence until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before us; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Psalm 23

The Second Lesson: P: C:

1 Peter 1:3-9

If we have died in Christ, we shall also live in him. If we are faithful to the end, we shall also reign with him.

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. The Second Lesson: 1 Peter 1:3-9 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faithbeing more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by firemay be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. P: C: If we have died in Christ, we shall also live in him. If we are faithful to the end, we shall also reign with him.

The Gospel John 5:24-29 "Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life. "Very truly, I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself; and he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not be astonished at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and will come out--those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation, and those who have done good, to the resurrection of life.

At Graveside p: Almighty God, by the death and burial of Jesus, your anointed, you have destroyed death and sanctified the graves of all your saints. Keep Charlotte Sisinger, whose body we now lay to rest, in the company of all your saints and, at the last, raise her up to share with all your faithful people the glorious resurrection of Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever, C: Amen P: Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. For as much as it has pleased Almighty God in his great mercy, to take to himself the soul of Charlotte Sisinger, we therefore commit her body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, in sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Christ was the first to rise from the dead, and we know that he will raise up our mortal bodies to be like his in glory. May the Lord bless Charlotte and keep her. The Lord make his face shine upon her and be gracious to her. The Lord look upon her with favor and give her peace. Amen Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Let us pray. Lord Jesus, by your death you took away the sting of death. Grant to us, your servants, so to follow in faith where you have lead the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake in your likeness; to you, the author and giver of life, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen Grant eternal rest to Charlotte, O Lord, And let your perpetual light shine upon her. And now, the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Let us go forth in peace in the Name of Christ. Amen.
