KUWAIT CITY, July 22: The Misdemeanor Court overturned the verdict of a First Instance Court and acquitted a citizen who had been sentenced to one year in prison with hard labor for swindling an Arab businessman of KD 200,000. Earlier, the public prosecution charged the citizen for misleading the Arab trader whom he convinced to join him in a lucrative venture. The plaintiff is said to have issued a bill of exchange to the defendant and he was able to collect the aforementioned amount, based on this illusion. Meanwhile, the citizen denied the charges and said he was connected with
the plaintiff through business deals they had outside Kuwait and they have no partnership inside Kuwait at all. With the bill of exchange, the defendant had actually issued one about 6 years ago but he never received any amount from the plaintiff. He maintained the promissory note he issued was to guarantee a business in China, but the plaintiff did not provide any goods. Moreover, he was supposed to have returned the bill, which he allegedly misused. The defendant lawyer Zaid al-Khabaz beseeched the court must cancel the verdict of the First Instance Court and acquit his client of all charges. Teenager acquitted: The Juvenile
Court acquitted a teenager of consuming hashish, after the Appeals Court upheld the verdict and acquitted the teenager of the charges the Public Prosecution had earlier issued against him for the possession of a narcotic substance without legal approval. The defense lawyer Omar Al-Omar said there was no proof that his client was actually involved in the crime.
onment and the verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeals. Court papers indicate the Public Prosecution had charged the man with luring the victim to elope from her house after promising to marry her. The accused allegedly then held the woman captive in the apartment belonging to his friend. The defense attorney proved to the court the testimony given to the court by the witnesses was contradictory. Moreover, he said there was no intent to commit harm to the victim. Meanwhile, the Criminal Court recently ruled in favor of a man and acquitted him of the attempted rape charge. Court papers show the woman alleged in her testimony to the court, the suspect, a friend of her husband
tried to rape her. She told the judge while she was asleep she was shocked to see the man in her bedroom. He allegedly grabbed her by the shoulders and attempted to rape her. She added after she resisted the mans desire, he left the bedroom, went to the Diwaniya and started smoking. She added she followed him with a baton and the man fearing for his life escaped. The court was not convinced by the womans testimony and said instead of chasing him, she should have called for help. Citing lack of evidence the court ruled in favor of the man. Court refuses to issue verdict: The
Criminal Court recently refused to issue a verdict in the case of a Kuwaiti man who was charged with possessing hashish and amphetamine, and instead released on KD 200 bail. The court also ordered the man to sign a pledge of good conduct for one year. Court papers indicate the cops spotted the man talking to another man in Qurain. However, as the cops approached the men escaped but the former managed to overpower and arrest the duo and seized the drugs from them. In court, the defense attorney said the case has been fabricated against his client. He also told the court there were contradictions in the testimony given by the two arresting officers.
