Chomps technology powers the most advanced search engine for native and web apps across the worldwide iOS and Android markets. The metrics outlined in this report provide insight into app search trends across iOS and Android using Chomps on-device search functionality within the US during the month of June. Chomp for Android launched on February 28, 2011. Android and iOS metrics included in this edition of App Search Analytics refers to data collected June 1 - 30 but references previous months for trending and comparison purposes. App Search Analytics

Top Queries
Games dominated Junes top queries, with the queries puzzle games, adventure games, action games, shooting games, and board games appearing in the top 25 queries for both Android and iOS.

App Monetization
Paid app downloads increased by 1% on Android and 4% on iOS. On Android, the increase was concentrated at a premium price point between $4.01 - $5.00, increasing share from 0.1% to 0.6%. For iOS, the increase was primarily in the $.99 and $1.99 price points, and there was a hint of weakness at premium price points.

Best in Category
The social networking category sees a major downtick in app share across platforms, decreasing from 6.6% to 4.6% on iOS and 7.8% to 6.9% on Android. Productivity and reference apps increased their share on iOS, while entertainment and music apps increased their share on Android.

Current Event Related Queries
The query for movie made a strong showing in the month of June and is strongly correlated with movie release dates for summer blockbusters.

International Search Trends (& top apps!)

With the explosion of apps globally, Chomp offers a snapshot of unique queries by country and shares top app downloads across Android and iOS abroad. This month games dominate the international query stream. While some top apps are localized, the query stream largely matches that of the US this month.

The Chomp 55
Find out which iPhone and Android apps won the hearts and minds of Chomp users during June. Five (or more) of the top 10 ten Chomp 55 apps are paid for the third month in a row (iOS). Androids top 10 gets diverse, featuring apps from ve different categories.

On Chomp, 6% of all Android Downloads were paid, a 1% increase over May. The % of paid apps has increased for the second consecutive month. The extra percentage point was distributed across multiple price points, with a particularly large increase in the price range $4.01 - $5.00, from 0.1% to 0.6%.

Developers offering paid iOS apps saw downloads increase by 4%, compared to May. This growth was primarily at the $0.99 and $1.99 price point. The $4.99 price point saw an increase from 0.8% in May to 1.0% in June, while the $9.99 price point decreased from 0.3% in May to 0.1% in June.

Entertainment and music increased their app download shares. Games, photography, and social networking saw slight downticks. Entertainment increased from 16.3% to 18.8% and music increased from 5.4% to 6.9%. Games decreased from 27.0% to 26.0%, photography apps decreased from 3.2% to 2.2%, and social networking apps decreased from 7.8% to 6.9%.

Social networking apps took a big hit at the expense of productivity and reference apps, which are thriving. Social networking apps decreased form 6.6% to 4.6%, while productivity apps increased from 7.8% to 8.8% and reference apps increased from 4.9% to 5.7%.

App queries correlate with real time events. June marked the beginning of the summer movie blockbuster season. Searches for the query movie spiked on Saturdays. Exceptions were X-Men First Class, which was the rst blockbuster of the summer and spiked on Friday, and Transformers 3, which was released on a Tuesday.

Free was the #1 search term across all countries sampled on Android. The snapshot below represents the top queries and subsequent app downloads on select countries around the globe through the Chomp app on Android. Google+ was the top app in Canada despite launching at the end of the month.
