Analysis:

Corporate social responsibility has become a common word in the business world today. Almost all the companies make it a point in donating something or the other towards the society. The society does so much for these companies and in return they take it as their responsibility to help the society. I would go ahead and quote the examples of IndianOil, Kelloggs, and Google. I would like to explain their initiatives towards the society.

Since its establishment in 1964, IndianOil has been into CSR activities and thus helping the society in one way or the other. Their mission statement: To help enrich the quality of life of community and preserve ecological balance and heritage through a strong environment conscience The mission statement itself suggests their zeal to work for the society and community. IndianOil believes in taking solid actions for the betterment of the community and thereby increasing its values for its shareholders and customers. As part of its CSR activities, IndianOil does the following activities: y IndianOil keeps aside a fixed portion of its profits for a community welfare and development programme. y About a quarter of the community development funds are spent on welfare of the lower caste people.

IndianOil has been in the front to lend their helping hand whenever there have been some natural calamities. They provide nonstop supply of petroleum products and relief in the form of cash for rehabilitation and development.

IndianOil also does it bit for environment by investing crores of rupees (almost 7000 crore) in state of the art technologies for the production of green fuels to maintain the global safety standard.

With precious petroleum products being exhaustible they are now preserving precious petroleum products by opting for ethanol blended petrol, biodiesel, CNG etc.

It has also come into partnership with various with various clubs which deal with the betterment of the societies by helping them with necessary funds to head start their initiatives.

Kelloggs is another company which is striving hard to give their due back to the community. People in Kelloggs know that children around the world live in tough conditions and that is their main aim as far as CSR is concerned. The following are some examples of Kelloggs initiatives towards the betterment of children. y y Kelloggs became the founding sponsor of the world of children organization in 1998. World of children organization is a nonprofit organization which gives away various awards to various individuals who have done something or the other and have made a difference in childrens life. y Kelloggs noted the increased number of obese children in todays times and went ahead to help them as well by donating $2, 50,000 towards Action for healthy kids programme. y The programme was launched in various schools, as they found out school as the apt environment to bring about a change. y This programme concentrates on child obesity and measures to reduce it.

The other programme which was launched was HOSTS helping one student to succeed.

This programme helped the teachers to make out an individualized plan for small groups of children in the classroom or out of the classroom.

It provides research based learning programme

Since its inception, google has been actively involved in various community development programmes. They perform their CSR activities in all the countries in which they have their offices. It addresses to the global challenges of climate change, education, poverty, environment etc. Following are some of their CSR activities: y Google has come up with a programme to empower the youth with their google social innovation cup for student programme. y The programme is a nationwide competition that asks the youths to submit their ideas for social change and google sponsors viable and good ideas and implements them. y The competition generates lakhs of entries from various colleges and schools in various countries y The 2008 earthquake which struck china saw many lives and homes destroyed and immobilized. y y Google immediately sprang into action and provided rescue and relief efforts. Google donated almost 20 million dollars to earthquake relief fund and donated over 7 million dollars worth of free online advertising for relief organizations y Google in addition made a platform which solved the problem of finding lost relatives, for charitable donations etc y Google grants is another programme by google

This is a free ad words advertising programme which allows some select charitable organizations to display their ads.

These were some of the many CSR activities performed by google.

Q.2 Cyber crimes are on the prowl in todays era. Getting a protective sheet from cyber related crimes has become the need of the hour for all the companies and also any individual who may get affected by it. To prevent or stop cyber crimes we need to first understand as to what are the various ways by which cyber crimes get originated. These are some of the following are the methods of perpetration:  Unauthorized access  Email bombing  Salami attack  Virus attack  Trojan horse attack  Cyber stalking and many more ways. According to me, these should be the various ways to tackle cyber crime: Firewalls: Firewalls block access to unauthorized users and gives access to only those which the user allows. It blocks programs which attack a network. Regular password changing: one should constantly change his/her password in order to protect his/her account from hacking. The passwords kept should be sufficiently tough which should include special characters, numbers and special keys so that anybody trying to get an access would find it tough to decode it.

Surfing secure websites: one should avoid visiting unsecured websites and websites which do not have a digital certificate. Accessing unsecured websites can lead to backdoor agents and viruses to enter into the system. Regular virus checks: The system should be regularly checked for viruses and worms so that the viruses do not multiply and destroy the whole system. Also the removable devices or CDs should be thoroughly scanned before opening it. Email Filters: Email filters are also an effective method of preventing cyber related crimes. These filters block any suspicious emails; or spam them and keep it in the spam folder by which the user can be alerted that the email is suspicious.
