PLOT (a) Ana, a chemist working in a perfume manufacturing company, makes a perfume into which she puts a piece

of fruitcake. (b) When she meets her boss, Mr Amos, he finds himself attracted to her and invites her out to dinner. (c) Anna s mother and Aunt Mimi want to find Anna a husband and try to convince her that Armstrong, the pizza delivery man, is a suitable catch, but Anna is not interested in him. (d) Later, when they go out to dinner, Mr Amos loses interest in her and only becomes interested again when she puts on more of the perfume. (e) A waiter at the restaurant also becomes very attracted to Anna and makes a nuisance of himself with her. (f) Sabrina, a beautiful model who is dating Mr Amos, becomes jealous of Anna. She insults Anna and then hits Mr Amos when he says that he loves Anna. (g) A fight takes place in the restaurant between the waiter and Mr Amos. (h) Anna realises that the fruitcake special is probably the cause of the attraction. She decides to get more information about the fruitcake from Aunt Mimi. (i) Aunt Mimi tells Anna that the lady who had made this particular fruitcake had died. Anna then decides to find out the secret ingredient in the fruitcake by testing the perfume. (j) However, when she is further insulted by Mr Amos and Sabrina, she accidentally flings the last of the perfume on Sabrina. (k) She resigns from her job and starts work with another perfume making company. (l) One day, Armstrong, the pizza delivery man, comes to her house and informs her that he now owns his own pizza company. He tells her that he always had been interested in Anna but he did not want to ask her out until he was successful. Anna decides that she likes him. SETTING The story is set in modern times in a town in the United States. CHARACTERS (a) Anna
Aspect of the character Personality/General information Description -> She is a twenty-seven-year-old young married Woman who works as a chemist making perfumes. -> She does not consider herself attractive, and does not expect Her boss to be interested in her. -> She gets along with her mother and Aunt Mimi.

(b) David Amos Aspect of the character Personality/General information Description -> He is the handsome boss of the company. -> He is wealthy, snobbish and superficial. -> He is normally only interested in glamorous young girls but Becomes attracted to Anna after she uses the perfume. -> He treats people badly and can be rather rude and insulting.

(c) Anna s Mother Aspect of character Personality/General information Description -> She cares about Anna s welfare and believes that the best thing That can happen to her daughter is for her to get married. -> She herself got married at eighteen years and had Anna at Nineteen. -> She keeps asking Anna embarrassing questions about Prospective husbands.

(d) Aunt Mimi Aspect of character Personality/General information Description -> She is Anna s aunt. -> She cares a lot about her niece and wants her niece to marry a Perfect , eligible young man and live happily ever after. -> She is the one who bought the fruitcake as it is supposed to Help girls find husbands. -> Like Anna s mother, she keeps asking Anna embarrassing Questions about prospective husbands.

(e) Sabrina Aspect of the character Personality/General information Description -> She is the beautiful young model who is presently dating Mr Amos. -> She is snobbish, superficial vain and spiteful. She considers Herself to be very beautiful. -> She becomes jealous of Anna when Amos gets attracted to her And is very rude to Anna.

(f) The Waiter Aspect of the character Personality/General information Description -> He is the young waiter at the restaurant where Mr Amos takes Anna to dinner. -> He falls in love with Anna while under the effect of the perfume And ends up fighting with Mr Amos.

(g) Armstrong Aspect of the character Personality/General information Description -> He is the pizza delivery man who used to deliver pizzas to Anna s house. -> Anna s mother thinks he would make a good husband for Anna But Anna at first is not interested in him. -> Later he owns his own pizza company and tells Anna that he Always been interested in her.

THEME (a) The central idea has an element of some supernatural power which makes a woman more attractive to a man. (b) The story is about sudden and amazing changes to people s lives and the consequences of these changes. (c) Good looks and wealth need not necessarily be the best choice when looking for partner. (d) There is also humour in the story. MORAL VALUES (a) Beauty and wealth need not necessarily bring true love and affection. (b) One should have faith in oneself and one s own abilities. (c) If you are patient and work hard to achieve your ambition, you can be successful.
