SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING WORKSHOP for Community Development Workers on CRABS++ (Activity Proposal)

OBJECTIVES At the end of the training workshop, the participants will have: 1. Identified with the intent and targets of the CRABS++ Development Program Strategy. 2. Become familiar with community organizing process and how they can facilitate in improving organizations strengths and potential for maximum development. 3. Recognized the content of various community facilitation methods/techniques and how they can be adapted for use with different target groups to achieve specific aims. 4. Practised and gained confidence in using participatory learning and action tools to draw out the knowledge of a group. 5. Acquired skills in analysing data that will provide useful information in assessment, recommendation and planning of activities. 6. Developed technical writing abilities that will aid in effective and efficient preparation of reports. 7. Become cohesive units of individuals that can effectively work together in pursuing the vision of the CRABS++ Development Program. DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY The training workshop is intended to jump start the implementation of the CRABS++ Development Program by preparing the Community Development Workers (CDWs) in advancing to community entry and social preparation. The activity will level-off CDWs understanding of their function and the systems and processes they will employ in carrying out their function in the field. The first three and a half days of the training activity is designed to equip participants with knowledge and skills that will improve performance in facilitating the development of community organizations located in the CRABS++ areas. The training will as well orient the CDWs of the intent of CRABS++ Development Program and the systems and processes to bring about desired outcome that the program envisions. The remaining one and a half days is allotted for the team building activities that will bring about a high performing team who are highly motivated to continuously perform better; a team who have well-developed processes and systems to organize their workload and who gain immense satisfaction from their shared achievements. The training will be participated in by staff coming from the different supporting offices of the Provincial Government of Albay that are designated to function as Community Development Workers for the implementation of CRABS++ Development Program. The content of the training workshop includes eight (8) modules specifically the following: Module 1: CRABS++ Development Program Strategy Module 2: Community Facilitation Skills Module 3: Participatory Rapid Appraisal Module 4: Organizational Diagnosis (ODx) Module 5: Adult Learning Module 6: Technology of Participation Module 7: Technical Report Writing Module 8: Team Building

Training workshop will be a combination of Lecture, Demo Workshop, and Practice Exercises that is seen to be most appropriate in ensuring participatory learning for fast transfer of concepts and skills. Albay MDG Office will provide the training staff composed of Activity Facilitators/ Resource Persons and the Secretariat. DURATION AND LOCATION The training workshop will run for five days from August 8-12, 2011 to be held at the Peoples Hall, Capitol Building, Legazpi City. EXPECTED RESULT It is anticipated that at the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to recognize the importance of their function as Community Development Facilitators in ensuring an effective and efficient movement of activities entailed in the planning and implementation of CRABS++ Development Program. Moreover, the series of activities to be conducted in organizing and empowering community organizations will be well-planned and properly coordinated because CDWs are guided by the concept and principles of CRABS++ coupled with the needed skills gained during the workshop.
