FormulaSAEisanintercollegiatecompetitionwherestudentsare challengedtomarket,design,manufacture,andcompeteinformula styleracecars.Thisrequiresacollaborativeteameffortforaperiod ofoneyearwheretheywillthencompetewithapproximately120 universitiesfromaroundtheworldincludingGermany,Japan,and India. Thecarsarerequiredtobebuiltwithintherules,guidelinesand regulationsprovidedbySAE.Atthestartofthecompetitioneach vehiclewillundergorigoroussafetyandtechnicalinspectionsto verifycompliancetotherules.Onlyafterthevehiclepassesallinitial inspections,willitbeeligibleforjudgingandscoringinthestaticand dynamicevents.

BajaSAEprovidesaspecialsortofchallenge:thedesignofarugged yetlightweightoffroadvehicle.Thegoalsforthisyearsbrandnew vehicleincludearobustandefficientdrivelinewithacustom gearbox,acarefullyengineeredchassis,andallterrainsuspension. Witha4hourendurance,anythingcanhappeninBaja.Thevehicle mustbedesignedtowithstandrocks,jumps,collisions,logs,steep inclines,mudandshallowwaterinanyorallcombinationsandinany typeofweatherincludingrain,snowandice.
