1. Meta-Model Templates, Shapes and Relationships

1.1. Managing templates and stencils
Templates are managed from Template Management. This is accessed from the iServer menu > Administration > Repository Configuration > Templates, or the Management Console.

1.2. Creating a Template

A new template is created in Visio (and Microsoft Office). Design the diagram layout in the usual way, but take care to save the file as a Template rather than a normal diagram.

1.3. Naming and saving

A template must be named according to what time of diagram it represents. For example Business Process Diagram. To allow iServer to identify it clearly, the document title should be named appropriately from File > Properties this will be the basis of what iServer assigns as the Object Type.

1.4. Uploading a Template to iServer

An existing template or newly created template can be uploaded from Template Management using the Upload Template button; all Visio diagrams should be closed before uploading a template. Navigate to where the template has been saved, select the template type, and click Open to upload.

1.5. Customizing and editing templates

To update / edit a template, select a template in iServer and use the Edit Template button in Template Management. iServer prompts for a location at which to open the template so that it can be edited. In Visio, edit the template as required, and then click the Save button in the toolbar.

iServer asks if you want to replace the existing template, click Yes.

1.6. Stencils and shape master settings

In order for standards to be set, each Visio template must have a docked stencil this is either a custom stencil or an existing one in Visio.

New masters can be added to a stencil by first clicking the top left corner of the stencil, and Edit Stencil.

Right click the stencil and select New Master. Rename the master as required, and design the shape according to specific requirements. The shape should be named according to the entity it represents, e.g. process and this should be entered in the stencils properties.

To save changes to the stencil and update iServer, click the stencils save button after it has been updated, and save the template as detailed above. To add new stencils to a template in iServer, edit the template from Template Management, open a stencil, save it and click Yes to all the iServer prompts. selected for assigning. Click OK when you are ready to confirm. The assignments can also be decided at another time.

1.6.1. Creating libraries, folders and assigning documents templates and stencils
Creating a folder is done in Repository Explorer with a right click of a folder that had a folder dropped onto it in Repository Configuration.

After a folder is created, there is an option of converting it into a Library which means objects within that folder and its sub-folders, can only be reused within that library. This essentially separates it into its own miniature repository One library can be changed and updated without affecting another. The option is enabled by ticking the checkbox for This folder is a library. After it has been selected as a library, the icon in Repository Explorer will be: instead of the standard folder icon.
