USEFUL INFORMATION Entries All entries must be pre paid by cheque or postal order made payable to TREC Ireland. A lunch pack and the social evening are included in the entry fee. Food A lunch pack will be provided free of charge for all helpers on both Saturday and Sunday. Lunch will be available to purchase at the venue for 7.50 on both days and extra tickets for the barbeque (for friends, partners etc) can be pre- ordered with the entry fee. Social A barbeque will be held at the venue on Saturday night 24th at 7.30pm and vegetarians are catered for. Passports It is a legal requirement to carry a passport when a horse is used for the purposes of competition. If a horse is transported without a passport when being used for competition purposes an offence is being committed and prosecution is a possibility. Passport will be required at vetting. Facilities Toilets will be provided on site. Stabling Some stabling is available on site as well as paddocks. A list of possible facilities in the area is available further on in this information leaflet. Accommodation A limited amount of B&B accommodation is available on site, but a number of types of accommodation are available in the vicinity, see detailed list below. Farrier The farrier will be on call and on site on Saturday afternoon/ early evening. Vetting All horses/ponies will be vetted prior to the start of the competition. Vetting will commence at 7.00pm on Friday 23rd for levels 2 to 4. All horses and ponies will be vetted in competition number order one after the other. A list of approximate timings will be produced. It will not be possible to have your horse vetted at any other time prior to the competition, unless under exceptional circumstances and previously agreed by the organiser. Horses/ponies will be vetted during the competition for levels 3 & 4 all levels 2 to 4 will be vetted before commencement of Phase 2 (Sunday morning). Please present your horses passport to the vet. Horses are to be presented to the vet in a head collar or bridle (however a bridle is highly recommended). Saddles and/or any protective boots must be removed. The vet will take the horses pulse and then perform a brief clinical examination. The horse is then to be trotted up for approximately 30 meters on a firm level surface. The horse should be trotted in a straight line on a relatively loose rein and turned away from the handler at the far end. The vet may eliminate the horse from the competition on the following grounds: TREC Ireland Page 3 of 7

1. Lameness 2. Poor bodily condition or inadequate size to carry the rider 3. Wounds, saddle sores or mouth injuries, which, in the opinion of the vet, are likely to be made worse or cause the horse distress if the horse is ridden 4. Pulse greater than 64 beats per minute (in some circumstances re-presentation for this parameter may be possible after a specified period of rest) 5. Unfitness to continue due to exhaustion, dehydration The sole purpose of the veterinary examination is to protect the welfare of the horses and in these terms the vets decision is final. In some circumstances there may be cause for concern, insufficient to warrant elimination of the horse, but such that the vet may recommend a specified period of rest, the rider is obliged to comply with this advice. All horses eliminated from the competition must be passed by the vet as fit to travel before leaving the venue. Please respect the vet and treat them with courtesy, do not challenge their decision. Any queries you have should be raised with your group secretary.
