TECHNICAL SUMMARY SHEET Inflatrol (915) Indications Inflatrol has the following benefits: Supports a healthy inflammation response

e Provides antioxidant protection Supports joint health Inflammation & Antioxidant Background Inflammation is a biochemical cascade reaction initiated after an injury or infection has occurred in the body. While this reaction is helpful for short-term insults, chronic inflammation that occurs in conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood sugar and arthritis has proven detrimental to health. Mast cells (produced after injury or infection), allow the expression of interleukin-1 and interleukin-6 and promote histamine and PGE-2 production which lead to joint destruction1. This new tissue damage further leads to more inflammation in the body, creating a vicious cycle of chronic inflammation. Inflammation generates free radicals; thus, adequate antioxidant stores are important in order to battle free radicals from further inducing cell damage. Turmeric Turmeric root (Curcuma longa) is a spice often used in Indian cuisine. Its active compound, curcumin (and other compounds in the curcuminoid family) has been shown in studies to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hypocholesterolemic activity2. During oxidative stress, ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) activate AP-1 and NF-KappaB. Curcuminoids in turmeric interfere with and inhibit the activation of AP-1 and NF-KappaB from carrying out the oxidative cascade2. In vitro studies demonstrate curcuminoids antiinflammatory properties by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha, interleukin-1 beta and interleukin-82. Quercetin Quercetin is a flavonoid with antioxidant activity, especially pertaining to lipid peroxidation inhibition2. It may also possess antiinflammatory activity2 by inhibiting degranulation of mast cells, basophils and neutrophils2. In one study, quercetin prevented oxidative-mediated injury to cells, which researchers suggested would be applicable if the injury was caused by infection, inflammation or an auto-immune mechanism2. Ginger Like turmeric, ginger shows similar inhibition of TNF-alpha and COX-2 expression, thus preventing NF-KappaB in an osteoarthritis study3 and resulting in less leukotriene and prostaglandin synthesis. It also possesses antioxidant properties. Green Tea Extract Green tea extract has the ability to scavenge ROS and inhibit LDL oxidation; it may be more potent than vitamin C and glutathione with regards to its antioxidant function2. Inflammatory markers were reduced in animals supplemented with green tea; EGCG (the major catechin in green tea) exhibited inhibition of AP-1 and NF-KappaB2.

Bromelain Bromelain possesses proteolytic activity on circulating immune complexes2. One study outlined positive effects (including reduced swelling, joint pain and/or stiffness) in 18 out of 28 patients with knee osteoarthritis4. Supplementation also lowered PGE-2, lowered colonic inflammation, and inhibited inflammatory markers in arthritic rats5,6,7. Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3 inhibits production and proliferation of cytokines, including interleukin-1 and interleukin-22. Vitamin D was found to reduce the inflammatory milieu in patients with congestive heart failure in a recent double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial8. It also has antioxidant effects2. Our Product and Dosage Inflatrol provides optimal amounts of turmeric, bromelain, papain, ginger, green tea extract, quercetin, and vitamins C and D3. Because effective doses used in research of turmeric in particular ranged from 1000 to 1440 mg per day, we suggest taking 2 tablets per day.
