The DragonWave Horizon Compact

Product has a recovery and upgrade utility: Merlin. Should a

customer loose any Ethernet/ Hardware Id information, Merlin will allow the user to find IP addressing information, serial numbers, and MAC addresses. It can also perform software upgrades, and install license keys for speed upgrades. Merlin is a PC-based application having a graphical user interface (GUI). Merlin is used for: Discover Horizon units on local subnet Provides the ability to telnet Discovers the first 32 (thirty-two) Horizon units to respond in the request. Note: the Horizon units must be on the same subnet as the PC executing the Merlin application Firmware Upgrades (Omni File, Modem File, Frequency File) Speed Upgrades (Max Licensed speed) Retrieve IP configuration via telnet Submit Files to support ( Create text file to submit to DragonWave to get upgrade key) Reset Super User account and IP configuration to factory default using a license key supplied by DragonWave When Merlin is executed, Merlin transmits a proprietary broadcast packet that only DragonWave Horizon units will respond to.

MERLIN NETWORK CONNECTIONS

Connect a Windows laptop or PC directly to the Horizon Ethernet data cable connected to Port 1 (P1) on the Horizon unit or to an Ethernet switch that is directly connected to the horizon unit.. Merlin will work on both Port 1 (P1) and Port 2 (P2) to discover horizon units. Port 2 (P2) must be used to upgrade firmware or reset the Super User account. Note: Do not connect through an Ethernet network containing routers as they may block the broadcast and response packets. Ethernet switches pass MAC addresses and it is generally acceptable to connect to a switch and run the Merlin utility.

Step 2: Select Interface

Once the List Available Interfaces button is clicked/selected, select the interface which you wish to use. It will typically be your Ethernet port adapter.

One or more interfaces will appear, in this example 6 interfaces have been found. Note that you will have different interfaces; click on the network interface that is directly connected to the Horizon(s) to select it. In this example, Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection (Microsofts Packet Scheduler) is the one we will use.

Step 3: Discover Horizon Units

After selecting the interface, click the Discover Horizon Units button.

All of the Horizon units on the selected interface will be detected and their information listed. Choose the desired Horizon by referencing the serial number (displayed as S/N) on the physical unit (label).

Each unit is numbered and there is detail on: the MAC address, the serial number (S/N), the reset count, the IP address, the subnet mask, and the default gateway. As shown above, all the information will be organized in the lines at the bottom of the window. In this example the details are:
MAC Address: 00:07:58:00:a0:58 IP Address: 209.87.247.216 Serial Number (S/N): 0122 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.224 Reset Count: 0 Default Gateway: 209.87.247.193

FIRMWARE UPGRADES
Horizon Compact software loads consist of three individual software modules: 1. Modem Omni 2. Application Omni (System Omni) 3. Frequency File (list of valid frequencies for the particular Horizon Compact type) All three files may be made available as an upgrade, or the Application Omni or Frequency File may be made available on its own. The Modem Omni will be accompanied by the Application Omni and both files must be loaded in order to upgrade the system. Note: The OMNI File must be loaded

whenever the Modem File is loaded. You must perform Discover Horizon Units in order to select the unit you wish to upgrade.
To upgrade the OMNI file, the Modem file and Frequency file go to the Firmware Upgrades page of the Merlin application. Remember, you must be using Port 2 (P2) for firmware upgrades.

You can acquire the Modem File, OMNI File and Frequency File from the customer support website: http://support.dragonwaveinc.com/ if you have the proper login privileges. When you select the Omni File, Modem File, of Frequency File button, a pop-up browse window will appear, allowing you to point the Merlin application to the proper file.

RESET UTILITIES
The Reset Utilities allow factory reset of the IP address and the Super User account on the Horizon Compact. Note that for security reasons, both functions require that you be a verified and registered administrator for the DragonWave Horizon units and have the appropriate authorization levels within your organization in order to request and receive the license key from DragonWave. In order to obtain the license key, a text file must be generated and sent to DragonWave. The text file contains the required information for the specific Horizon Compact unit that is to be reset. This allows the Horizon Compact Super User to acquire a one-time use reset key that is linked to a single Horizon unit.

You must perform Discover Horizon Units in order to select the unit you wish to factory reset.
After performing the Discover Horizon Units function, select the Submit File to Support button to create a text file containing the MAC address information and Horizon Compact serial number. You will be prompted to save the text file into a directory of your choosing. Email the text file to support@dragonwaveinc.com. After your authorization level has been verified, you will receive a onetime use license key via email to use to reset the system IP address and Super User account to factory default.

Once you receive the license key file, you can select the Reset button. A pop-up window will prompt you for the location of the license key file. Select the license key file to reset the Super User account and the IP configuration using the key supplied by DragonWave. If successful, you will receive a reset IP and SU settings complete! message and the system will be reset to the following: IP address: 192.168.10.100 Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.10.2 Super User username: energetic password: wireless If unsuccessful, you will receive a hash key failure message indicating it is an incorrect license key for this particular Horizon Compact unit and the key generation process must be repeated.
