At the Corner as owner, Jeff Rippy refers to it, you can feel comfortable in the sports themed non-smoking facility. There are plenty of big, flat screen TVs where you can always catch the latest sports, and your friends and neighbors are probably sitting at the next table. Juliet. Mid-TN Dining 2011 Page 9 In the midst of the recent global eco- nomic struggles, dining out became a luxury many people decided they could no longer afford. Though families tradi- tionally dine out less than anyone, in light of fewer funds, the trend to stay in for meals and save money extended be- yond families to couples and singles as well. Though the economy is gradually bouncing back, the impact of the recent recession is still fresh on the minds of many. While its important to watch spending, that doesnt mean dining out must continue to be an unaffordable luxury. In fact, there are many ways to enjoy dining out and still save money. * Look forward to Restaurant Week. Many larger cities offer some type of Restaurant Week, a week during which restaurants across a given metropolitan area provide lower prices to customers as incentive to dine out and try new cui- sine. Many restaurants offer prix fixe deals, typically including three courses ranging anywhere from $25-40 per plate. This allows consumers to enjoy af- fordable meals at restaurants that might otherwise be out of the budget. * Peruse restaurants online. Many restaurants allow people surfing the Web to join mailing lists via their Web sites. Such mailing lists provide e-mail up- dates on menu changes and special events at the restaurant, making it eas- ier to schedule nights out on the town in advance. Some restaurants even offer exclusive discounts to those on their mailing lists, making it more affordable to spend a night dining out. * Look for coupons. Mailboxes are often filled with junk mail, but nearly everyone has received that envelope full of coupons at least once. While its easy to simply discard junk mail immedi- ately, that envelope might just be the key to an affordable night out on the town. Many restaurants send offer coupons via such envelopes as well as the local newspaper, and these coupons often provide great deals. Another place to look for restaurant coupons is a local entertainment book. While these books often must be pur- chased, those who truly put the book to use will save much more in the long run at restaurants as well as several local businesses. * Take advantage of promotions. Many people scoff at restaurant promo- tions that might offer too little or seem too limited. However, for couples who havent had a night out on the town in a while, those promotions might be just whats needed. Part of the fun of dining out is getting out of the house, so while that limited menu special might not be exactly what a diner is looking for, it is a more affordable way to hit the town and let someone else do the cooking. While dining out might be a costly endeavor for families, couples or even singles, savvy diners can find deals if they look in the right places. By Jeanene Sutton On July 6th Los Compadres will be celebrating 20 years of offering their customers authentic Mexican food in a relaxed and friendly south-of-the- border atmosphere. From 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm that evening they will have a live Mariachi band in the restaurant to entertain their guests while dining. They will also be offering different specials throughout the day to celebrate this milestone in their business. It is sure to be a true Mexican fiesta that shouldnt be missed! Owner, Jose Gutierrez, had the furni- ture and the dcor including the tile, the sinks, wrought iron and the limestone fountain all brought in from Mexico. This extra attention to detail has set Los Compadres apart and gives the atmos- phere an authenticity from the instant you set foot inside the door. However, atmosphere alone never kept anyone from going hungry. The food is another place where the extra at- tention to detail is certainly paying off for Jose and Los Compadres. The salsa is made fresh daily and the authentic Mexican recipes have been prepared for more than 15 years by the same chef. The Margaritas are made only with 100% Blue Aqua Tequila in their full service bar. The wait staff is friendly and courte- ous with the needs of the customer as their top priority. The food arrives quickly, hot, and ready to enjoy. The restaurant has open dining rooms to ac- commodate large groups, parties, church groups and families. On Sunday families enjoy an incredible buffet with a wide variety of selections that include but are not limited to: Steak and Chicken Fajitas, Beef and Chicken Alambres, Build your own Crispy Tacos, Taco Salad, Potato Salad, Macaroni, Chicken Wings, Chicken Nuggets, Fruit, Desserts (including Flameabos their own secret recipe with bananas, straw- berries, ice cream, fried flour tortillas, sugar and cinnamon). All of this and more is available for the affordable price of $8.99 for adults and $4.99 for chil- dren 12 years and under. Los Compadres is open daily from 11:00 am until 10:30 pm. Be watching for their Mt. Juliet location on Lebanon Rd., opening sometime in the middle of August and dont forget the anniversary celebration on July 6th. Bicyclette, owned by Chris and Sharon Burgess, prides itself on its un- pretentious French cuisine served in a casual atmosphere. The menu has a va- riety of fresh foods including classics like Steak Diane and Salmon en Papillote as well as favorites like crepes and sand- wiches. Their prices are unbeatable with a crepe sucre (sweet crepe) starting at $5.00, sandwiches are priced between $7 and $9 with a side and their entrees round out somewhere around the $20 mark. Picture This, owned by Matt Fischer and Duane Chambers is located at 4674 Lebanon Rd in Hermitage and they are Mounting a campaign against bare naked walls. Their clients have come to their gallery for 15 years to find unique pieces created by artist with just the right flair and have never been turned away empty handed or disappointed. Now through their combined efforts with Bicyclette, both of their customers will experience the wines and cuisine of France along with some beautiful original works of art for some Thursdays to remember. Bicyclette and Picture This, the perfect pair, oui? By: Jeanene Sutton Normally, the dog house is not where you would want to be, until now. Coris Dog House is exactly where you want to be if you want the best hot dogs, best toppings, best buns and the best service avail- able. As a matter of fact their slogan is, Sometimes its good to be in the doghouse. In September 2009 Sean Sullivan, AKA Sully, wanted to open a place that took him back to one of his happiest childhood memories, eating hot dogs at the lunch counter in Woolworths with his mom. He always had two, served on a New England style bun. While it is quite possible that the lunch counter at Woolworths never offered their patrons 38 different hot dog combinations to choose from along with a selection of 16 other specialty sand- wiches, but that is exactly what Sully decided to do at his own gourmet hot dog restaurant, Coris Dog House. Hoping to instill some of those same fond child- hood memories in his own child, Sully named his restaurant after his then nine year old daughter Cori, when he opened the dog house. While Sully runs the place most of the time, she does pop in from time to time to check on things and act as CEO. According to him she has fired him about four times but hires him back two minutes later when she realizes she has to do the work! All of the ingredients at Coris Dog House are fresh. The fries and onion rings are all hand cut. Their New England style bun has often been de- scribed as a type of Texas Toast. These buns are baked fresh by a local bakery, covered with butter, grilled to perfection before becoming the vehicle for the famous Coris Hot Dogs. The only thing in their freezer is the hot dogs according to Sully. We suggest 38 different topping combinations but have 4 million possibilities, said Sully If you visit Coris Dog House you might have to stand in line for one for these gourmet dogs but they are fast and friendly and will have you coming back for more. Coris Dog House is located at Prov- idence Shopping Center. Coris is open 11 am 8 pm Monday through Thursday, 11 am 9 pm Fri- day and Saturday and 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday.
