Royal Mail Daily Operational Customer Statement

Covering the 24 hour period to 08:00 on Tuesday 9th August and any anticipated service issues
The following update was issued by Royal Mail Customer Service at 10:30 on Tuesday 9th August.

Operational general synopsis

Our UK and International networks operated mainly to plan last night, any service affecting incidents are reported below.

Mails network & distribution

Air A road service failed to connect with flights to Stansted Airport from Newcastle, Exeter and Edinburgh Airports. As a result a small amount of mail posted yesterday in the South West of England, North of England and Central and Southern Scotland, due for delivery in the GU, KT and TW postcode areas today may have been delayed. Rail Our rail services operated well and to plan last night. Road A late running road service from Norwich Mail Centre to our East London Distribution Centre, in West Thurrock, may have caused the day in some mail posted in the NR postcode area yesterday, due for delivery in the EC, W, WC, E and N postcodes areas of London and the South East and Anglian areas. Distribution & vehicle centres Our Distribution and Vehicle Centres operated well last night.

Collections
Normal collections were made across almost all of the UK last night, although it was not possible to make a small number of collections in some areas affected by the civil unrest in some parts of London yesterday. It was not possible to complete all collections in some parts of Peckham (SE13), Lewisham (SE15), Brixton (SW2) and Tooting (SW17) yesterday due to security and access issues. Collections should be made from most Post Offices, customers & posting boxes in almost all other parts of London and the UK today.

Deliveries
The majority of mail services across the country, including London, are taking place as usual. In London and a small number of other areas affected by the disturbances, we are endeavouring to maintain normal mail services wherever possible. However, in the areas affected by the civil unrest, some road and police restrictions or damage to properties may limit our ability to access businesses and residential customers to deliver or collect mail today. We will continue to update our service update pages with further information and advice throughout the day.

Royal Mail Daily Operational Customer Statement

Deliveries were affected yesterday in parts of Stockwell (SW9) and Walthamstow (E17) and Tottenham (N17), where access was not possible to a number of addresses. Some deliveries in both Woolwich and Peckham are likely to be made later than normal today. Deliveries may be made later than normal or may not be possible today in parts of Ealing (W5), Tottenham (N17), parts of the E8 (Hackney) postcode area and in parts of Peckham (SE15) as well as some parts of Croydon (CR9). In Woolwich (SE18) some deliveries will be made later than normal today and in parts of Battersea (SW11), access to a number of properties will not be possible today, particularly around the Clapham Junction area. A small number of properties in Birmingham, mainly in Handsworth town centre, are also inaccessible today due to overnight unrest. This may result in limited or no services today. Deliveries and collections in any areas affected by the riots will only be attempted where it is safe and possible for our staff to make them.

Public Holiday in the Orkney Islands

On Thursday 11th August Dounby, Egilsay and Graemsay, in the Orkney Islands, are observing a local holiday. No deliveries will be made in the KW16 and KW17 postcode areas on that day. Normal services will resume on Friday 12th August.

Mail Centre processing

Our mail processing centres operated mainly to plan last night with only one service affecting issue reported. A mechanical failure in Leeds Mail Centre last night caused a delay in the processing of some mail. It is possible that a small amount of mail posted in the HG, LS and WF postcode areas yesterday, due for delivery in the rest of the UK today, may have been delayed.
