Indiana Board of Law Examiners The Bar Exam: Application Instructions Application InstructionsPlease be sure to read all instructions.

Notice to Applicants: Incomplete Applications Not Accepted. All questions on the application must be answered. Do not use N/A or Not Applicable. If the answer is no or none, so state. Reference letters must be attached to the application. Photo ID must be submitted with the application. The application must be notarized. No personal checks or firm checks are accepted. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and will be returned. Late filing fees and deadlines apply to any incomplete application that is re-submitted after the regular filing deadline. No applications will be accepted after the late filing deadline. Deadlines. Click here for a list of application filing deadlines (for postmark date).
Note. Applications for the February Bar Examination will not be accepted by the Indiana Board of Law Examiners before October 1st. Applications for the July Bar Examination will not be accepted by the Indiana Board of Law Examiners before March 1st. Pursuant to Admission and Discipline Rule 15, no requests for filing past the stated deadlines or for waiver of filing deadlines will be accepted by the Board of Law Examiners or by the Supreme Court.

All questions must be answered. If the answer to any question is no or none so state. Do not use n/a or not applicable. Copies. Applications and all attachments MUST be submitted IN DUPLICATE, including reference letters. Reference Letters Three reference letters must be attached to your application. The purpose of the reference letters is to provide the Board with three (3) independent opinions of the Applicant from individuals who are personally familiar with the Applicant and can attest to the Applicant having the attributes of character and fitness as specified in Admission and Discipline Rule 12. Reference letters must have original signatures, may not be identical, and may not be from a relative or law school classmate. Filing Fees. Enclose Two Hundred and Fifty Dollar ($250.00) filing fee for the first filing deadline or enclose Five Hundred Dollar ($500.00) filing fee for the late filing deadline. This must be a certified check, cashiers check or money order, Payable to: State Board of Law Examiners. Personal checks or firm checks are not accepted. Photo Identification Required. A photograph for identification purposes must be sent with your application. The photo must be passport size, approximately 2x2, and taken no more than 2 years prior to the date of the application. The photo must be laminated on a 3x5 card and have your name printed on the card. Note. Applications without a photo ID will not be processed. Applications will be returned. Fingerprints Required. o Go to a State Police Post or Law Enforcement Facility that can take your fingerprints. o The State Police will Not Accept bent or folded fingerprint cards! o A certified check or money order for ten dollars ($10.00) made payable to the STATE OF INDIANA must be sent with your fingerprints. o State Form 8053 must be completed and submitted with your fingerprint card to the Indiana State Police. State Form 8053 Note. The State Board of Law Examiners has pre-filled in
information on State Form 8053. The box that must be checked is the Review Challenge box.

Bureau of Motor Vehicle Report Required. Driving Record print outs from all jurisdictions in which you have held a drivers license during the past five (5) years are required for each bar examination. Form C3 Required. Deans affidavit of good moral character and subject matter completion is due twenty days before the date of the bar examination. Form C3 was furnished with the application. Deliver this form to the Dean of your Law School to be completed. Testing Accommodations. Bar Applicants who require Testing accommodations must submit the accommodation request form with the bar application and provide current medical documentation. Testing Accommodations Request Form Character and Fitness Personal Interview Required. A personal Character and Fitness interview is required at least 30 days prior to examination. Pertinent information will be sent when your application is processed. A Character and Fitness Member from the county you designate on your application will be assigned for your personal interview, which will be conducted in that county.
