Line RL load A RP g
230V VAC
VP
The pulse generator has no load pulse voltage VP, internal resistance RP and with a variable delay. The power device data is given below. Repititive peak off state voltage = 350V On state current RMS = 20A On state voltage = 2V Peak gate voltage = 10V Peak gate current = 2A Min. gate voltage = 2V Min. gate current = 30mA Holding current = 50mA (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) Select a voltage for VP and find out a value for RP. Calculate the maximum and minimum usable values of the load RL. If the circuit is delivering less than the full power, draw the waveforms at g and A with respect to N including Vac on a common time scale. Estimate as a percentage, the maximum variation of the line voltage possible. If the load is getting maximum power but cannot be changed by the variable delay control in the pulse generator how do you locate the fault? When the supply is increased by 10%, comment on the operation of the circuit.

Find an expression for the charging current of the capacitor C1. Calculate this current and the voltage of the emitter at which the UJT will start to conduct. Assume = 0.43. Sketch the waveforms at each test point on a common time scale. Mark the important voltage and time values on your sketch and show the derivation of these values. Consider the following fault cases and find the faulty component/s giving the fault type with reasons. case

The transistor TR1 is of high gain type and TR2 is having = 50. Calculate the base current and hence calculate the test point voltages at no signal. Using the model shown for the transistors derive an expression for the voltage gain for mid band frequencies. Find the amplitude of the output if the input signal amplitude is 10mV. gm1 = 46mA/V gm2 = 85mA/V R 1 = R 2 = 0.6k (d) Find the maximum input signal amplitude that can be applied to have undistorted output. Consider the following fault cases and find the faulty component/s giving the fault type with reasons.

The inputs and the output of the circuit are A, B, C and F respectively. Derive a fault table for stuck-0 and stuck-1 faults at the inputs and the output. The fault table shows the response of the fault free circuit and the circuit with the faults. You may assume that there is only one fault for one instance. Using the results in (a), derive the minimum number of the input combinations that detects all the faults stated above.
