FROM OUR PASTOR

After a couple of practice days to get everyone used to the routine, the first full week for Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic School is tomorrow. This year the vacation seems to have passed very quickly, perhaps because so much has been happening in the school. We have our new Principal, Dr. Pamela Bernards, who took up her post on July 1st and has been busy meeting parents and teachers in between familiarizing herself with the policies of the State and Diocese and doing a thousand other tasks. We have a new student entrance - actually the entrance of the original cathedral - so that our children will come and go under the arms of Jesus uplifted in blessing. We have new technology in the classrooms and a great deal of new paint everywhere. Most importantly we have the privilege of new families in our community - please welcome them and help them to feel at home. Each new school year reminds us that we are all disciples and our entire life should be marked by learning and growth. This is a special year because from Advent onwards we will be learning our way around the new translation of the Roman Missal, but life-long growth in faith is to be a characteristic of Catholic life always and everywhere. Of course, the first educators in the faith are parents. It is they, above all others, who establish in their children the first sensitivity and responsiveness to the presence of God, to the practice of prayer and to the patterns of life in the community of faith, the parish. We are blessed by many great families here at Saint Charles: by their example in the home and by their participation in the Mass and other sacraments, they are laying down the foundations of life-long faith and discipleship in their children. The partnership between home and parish, seen in the weekly faith formation classes for public school students and in the special education given for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation, is enhanced by the role of the Catholic school. Catholic schools are focal points of the educational mission of the Church which is aimed at the ongoing development of the whole potential of every person. A Catholic school is a community in which faith is expressed and shared through every aspect of its activity. Through academic excellence, through the pattern of daily prayer, through the celebration of the sacraments of the Church, through works of charity, and through a striving for justice in all it does, a Catholic school seeks to be a catechetical community in which the content and the life of faith is shared. This vision of the Catholic school lies at the heart of the expectation that Catholic parents strive to send their children to Catholic schools, if at all possible. The partnership between home, parish and school is the best setting for the formation of maturing Catholic young people. That explains why, for example, the majority of candidates for the priesthood and religious life have been in Catholic school.

HOW DO I BECOME A CATHOLIC?

Are you interested in learning more

about the Catholic faith? Would you like to become a Catholic? Do you know someone who may be interested?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a process of conversion and initiation in the Catholic Church as adults (anyone seven years of age or older) journey together in faith and share experiences while discerning Gods call. If interested in participating, please call the office. We will be happy to assist you on your journey.

OFFICE HOURS: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm MARRIAGE PREPARATION: Please contact the Church Office to schedule a meeting with Father Augustine. You need to allow six months for the preparation process and it would help us if you could obtain new baptism certificates before the meeting. We can also help with the convalidation (blessing) of a civil marriage and sometimes with the annulment of a previous marriage as long as the civil divorce is complete.

DO YOU HAVE A CHILD, SEVEN YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, WHO HAS NOT YET BEEN BAPTIZED CATHOLIC?
Once a child reaches the age of reason (seven), the child is brought into the Church just as an adult isthrough the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Following this process of preparation which lasts about a year, the child is fully initiated into the Church at the Easter Vigil through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. In order to have a child baptized Catholic, at least one parent must be Catholic. If you are considering having your childage 7 or olderbecome Catholic, or if you have any questions, please contact Sister Marie at the parish office, 407.293.9556 ext. 121.

BAPTISM PREPARATION is offered to parents and

godparents and is required prior to scheduling a baptism. Please register for the class by calling Deacon Paul Volkerson at the Parish Office (407.293.9556 extension 110). Classes take place on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
