Course Description
This is a college preparatory class emphasizing inductive and deductive reasoning, proofs, congruent or similar polygons, parallel lines, properties of quadrilaterals, triangles, and circles. Students solve problems using perimeter, area, volume, Pythagorean Theorem, trigonometric functions, constructions, special right triangles, and coordinate plane transformations.
Course Objectives
This course will cover the following topics: Foundations of Geometry- Standard 1.0 Coordinate-Plane- Standards 17.0, 22.0 Logic and Reasoning- Standards 1.0, 3.0 Parallel Lines- Standard 7.0 Triangles and Congruency- Standards 4.0, 5.0, 12.0, 13.0 Constructions- Standard 16.0 Quadrilaterals- Standard 7.0 Similarity- Standard 4.0, 5.0, 11.0 Right-Triangle Trigonometry- Standards 19.0, 20.0 Polygons- Standards 10.0, 12.0 Circles- Standards 7.0, 21.0 Three-Dimensional Solids- Standard 9.0
Instructor Expectations
Students will be in class, on time, and ready to work. Students will bring necessary materials each day (pencils, pens, paper, notebook, related handouts, etc.). Students will complete their assignments and make up missed work and assessments. Students will do their own work. All assigned work must be done neatly in pencil. Students must identify the date, assigned pages, the problems, show all work/steps, and follow the required format for assignments. Students will keep personal matters outside of the classroom, allowing the teacher to instruct and guide lessons, and giving fellow students every opportunity to learn. Students will set aside additional time to study each day, especially prior to a quiz, benchmark, test, or final.
Classroom Expectations
The following behaviors are expected of each student everyday-
Be on time and prepared for class everday. Respect the teacher, fellow students, and their property, and the classroom. Follow directions the first time they are given. Keep all food, drink, gum, personal grooming, and personal business outside the classroom. Be courteous and cooperative with others.
Attendance Policy
Due to the rigorous nature of this course, attendance is crucial to the success of the student. Students not in their seat when the bell rings will be marked tardy. Tardy students will receive a warning followed by teacher detention. After the 3rd tardy the student will receive a referral. Students with an excused absence will have an extension to make up missed work. It is the students responsibility to get make-up work. Students are also expected to check the class website before returning to class and be prepared for any assessments on the day they return.
Cheating/Plagiarism
Students that are caught in the act or after the fact of cheating, committing plagiarism will receive a zero on the assignment in question. Cheating will not be tolerated.
