and fuel and lubricant oil additives. The upstream and downstream activities of the company are dispersed geographically, with operations in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australasia. Expl orati o n a nd P ro ducti o n During the year ended Dec. 31, 2007, Chevron conducted exploration and production operations in the United States and various other countries. Worldwide oil-equivalent production was approximately 2.597 million barrels per day in 2007. As of Dec. 31, 2007, the company owned or had under lease or similar agreements undeveloped and developed oil and gas properties located worldwide. The company sells crude oil and natural gas from its producing operations under a range of contractual arrangements. In the United States, the company is contractually committed to deliver to third parties and affiliates approximately 456 billion cubic feet of natural gas through 2010. Outside the United States, the company is contractually committed to deliver to third parties a total of approximately 631 billion cubic feet of natural gas from 2008 through 2009 from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Denmark and the Philippines. The United States upstream activities are concentrated in in California, the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, the Rocky Mountains and Alaska. Average net oil-equivalent production during 2007 was 743,000 barrels per day, composed of 460,000 barrels of crude oil and natural gas liquids and 1.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas. During 2007, the companys production outside California and the Gulf of Mexico averaged 308,000 net oil-equivalent barrels per day, composed of 104,000 barrels of crude oil, 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 33,000 barrels of natural gas liquids. Chevron Corp., also has exploration and production operations in Africa (Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Angola-Republic of the Congo Joint Development Area, Chad/Cameroon, Libya and Nigeria); Asia-Pacific (Australia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Partitioned Neutral Zone (pans) and Philippines); Indonesia; other international areas (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Canada, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Netherlands, Norway and United Kingdom), and affiliate operations (Angola, Kazakhstan, Venezuela and Russia). Refi ni ng, Ma rketi ng a nd Tra nsp ortati o n In 2007, the companys refining system consisted of 19 fuel refineries and an asphalt plant. The company operated nine of these facilities, and 11 were operated by affiliated companies. In 2008, the company sold its 4 percent ownership interest in an affiliate that owned a refinery in Abidjan, Cote dIvoire. Average crude oil distillation capacity utilization during 2007 was 86 percent. The crude unit at the Pascagoula Refinery was back in service in February 2008. Despite the outage at Pascagoula, the company was able to maintain uninterrupted product supplies to customers through the use of other feedstocks in its gasoline-producing facilities at the refinery. At the United States fuel refineries, crude oil distillation capacity utilization averaged 85 percent in 2007, and cracking and coking capacity utilization averaged 78 percent in 2007, respectively. Cracking and coking units, including fluid catalytic cracking units, are the primary facilities used in fuel refineries to convert heavier products into gasoline and other light products. The companys fuel refineries in the United States, Europe, Canada, South Africa and Australia produce low-sulfur fuels. In 2007, Singapore Refining Company, the companys 50 percent-owned affiliate, began an upgrade project at its 290,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Singapore. In 2007, the company completed modifications at its refineries in El Segundo, California, to enable the processing of heavier crude oils into gasoline, diesel and other light products, and in the United. In October 2007, the company approved plans to construct a $500 million Continuous Catalyst Regeneration unit at the Pascagoula, Miss., refinery.

EARNINGS CALL TRANSCRIPT

Dave OReilly, Chairman and CEO Jan. 29, 2009. In our upstream business, we committed starting to on three major Chevron operated projects, adding significantly to our long-term production. The Tengiz expansion like Agbami and Blind Faith are all online and performing well. We also started the first phrase of the North Duri steam flood in Indonesia and achieved first production at five partner-operated projects. Weve talked about our exploration success for many

years in a row and 2008 was another banner year for exploration, which well discuss further at the March Security Analysts Meeting. We told the investment community that our reserve replacement ratio would improve and on a preliminary basis, we estimate that we replaced 146 percent of our production in 2008. Now our downstream business we placed to improve refinery reliability. We delivered on that pledge in 2008 and we had our best fuelization rates on record. 2008 represented a 6.5 percent improvement in refinery utilization over the base year of 2005. Our downstream portfolio rationalization has continued in 2008 as we exited a number of nonstrategic markets. Finally, we rewarded our shareholders with another double-digit increase in our dividends and repurchased $8 billion of our shares. We did so while funding our robust capital program and maintain the balance sheet with more cash than debt at the end of the year. So we enter these challenging times with the financial strength and flexibility to succeed in the years ahead. Turning to slide 16, lets just look at 2009 briefly. In our upstream business were on track to start up three more Chevron operated projects further demonstrating our organic growth potential. We are also focused on the work needed to continue to advance in our strategically important projects in core areas such as Australia and the deep water Gulf of Mexico. In the downstream business, were maintaining our focus on refinery utilization to capture the most margin that the market will permit. And were continuing to rationalize our portfolio to focus on our strongest markets and those with the most potential for long-term value creation. Across the enterprise were focused on managing our costs in the same world-class process as we used to manage costs when they are rising are now critical to realizing maximum savings on materials and services in a softening market. Combined with capital discipline, our attention to every element of our cost structure will ensure us success during this economic slowdown. Rewarding our share holders, continuing our disciplined growth, and maintaining our financial strength are all objectives we have been pursuing and will continue to pursue in 2009. http://seekingalpha.com/article/117745-chevron-q4-2008-earnings-call-transcript?page=-1

Chevrons Energy Technology Company (ETC) integrates the development and deployment of technology across the enterprise, from deepwater oil fields to the development of next-generation energy sources. This integration is uncommon in the industry and delivers a competitive advantage by providing full research and development capabilities to Chevrons upstream, downstream and emerging energy businesses. ETC is creating a robust pathway inside their company to improve efficiency, increase productivity, lower costs and encourage innovation. Strategies for major businesses: Upstream: Grow profitability in core areas, build new legacy positions and commercialize the companys natural gas equity resource base while growing a high-impact global gas business. Downstream: Improve base-business returns and selectively grow, with a focus on integrated value creation. Enabling strategies companywide: Invest in people to achieve the companys strategies. Leverage technology to deliver superior performance and growth. Build organizational capability to deliver world-class performance in operational excellence, cost reduction, capital stewardship and profitable growth. The company also continues to invest in renewable-energy technologies, with an objective of capturing profitable positions in important renewable sources of energy.

EXPENDITURES
Total reported expenditures for 2007 were $20 billion, including $2.3 billion for the companys share of affiliates expenditures, which did not require cash outlays by the company. In 2006 and 2005, expenditures were $16.6 billion and $11.1 billion, respectively, including the companys share of affiliates expenditures of $1.9 billion and $1.7 billion in the corresponding periods. The 2005 amount excludes $17.3 billion for the acquisition of Unocal Corporation. Investments in chemicals, technology and other corporate businesses in 2008 are budgeted at $1.3 billion. Chevron confirmed that their capital expenditures for 2008 are still at the budgeted amount, which is just shy of $23 billion. Spending in 2008 is primarily targeted for exploratory prospects in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico and western Africa and major development projects in Angola, Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Thailand, the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the Piceance Basin in Colorado and an oil sands project in Canada.

IT DEVELOPMENTS
Identity Ma nage ment I think the play that [Oracle] is making is on the PeopleSoft side of their business, says Jay White, global information protection architect for Chevron Corp., who adds that identity management will be a priority for Chevron in the coming year. One of the key aspects of any identity management system is who maintains the data in that system, and most organizations

have looked back to the HR group to do that. In the long run, if vendors integrate identity management into their core systems, I dont have to do that. (Press release dated February 2009.) http://www.peoplesoft-planet.com/Oracle-buys-Thor-Technologies.html MP S G ro up Beeli ne W or kf orce S ol utio ns In September 2008 Beeline, the workforce solutions business unit of MPS Group, Inc. received the Supplier of the Year award from Chevron Information Technology Company. Chevrons criteria for the Supplier of the Year award included quality of product delivered, complexity of product, value delivered, and relationship management. With aggregated rankings, Beeline achieved the highest overall score among all other suppliers that were competing for this honor. All suppliers considered for the award are part of Chevrons Advanced Supplier Relationship program. In addition to Beeline, there are 14 other strategic suppliers in the program, including several Fortune 100 companies. Beeline has been an excellent service provider for Chevron for the past five years and works hard at earning our business every day, said Linda Fusinati, global category lead, Chevron. http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20 080903006330&newsLang=en Ari ba B uyer; BM C Reme dy Chevron is equally committed to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance. But when the Chevron Procurement organization closely examined its approach, it discovered that it was coming up short in some areas. Mark Rose, general manager of Procurement Technologies, and team have used Ariba Buyer since 1998. And while Chevron considered the Inspector functionality of Ariba Buyer to be an extremely powerful and valuable tool for troubleshooting and research, the team wanted to add the ability to track or trace any changes to the database. As a result, Chevron developed several custom solutions to meet its SOX requirements and satisfy its auditors. One of the first applications that the Procurement team implemented was a way to put user-based security around Inspector so that every time someone made a change within Inspector, a Remedy ticket number, user information and the details of the change are written to a database. With this enhanced functionality, Chevron is now able to track which fields and values changed through a report against this database. The report also highlights the changes that need further investigation, allowing Chevron to maintain its compliance. Chevron implemented the solution using Wonderwares Mobile Workforce Management and Decision Support System, IntelaTrac, powered by Windows Mobile software. With IntelaTrac, Chevron has increased refinery operating reliability, reduced maintenance costs, and improved safety and environmental compliance. Chevron estimates that these process improvements will save the company U.S.$3 million to $5 million annually. Chevron has also found that IntelaTrac helps capture process knowledge before workers retire and speed new-worker assimilation through mobile learning. We wanted to electronically link our field workers with the rest of the organization so we could make their decisions and actions more consistent and efficient, said Mike Brooks, then global refining IT adviser, Chevron. The key to such a solution is automated measurements and visibility. Huttenhoff and his colleagues are engaged in a multi-year, multi-million-dollar compliance automation project using Symantec Control Compliance Suite to gain a continuous view of the companys compliance state. Huttenhoff says, We believe that through this compliance automation, well have the foundation of data we need to produce audit data whenever its required, rather than having a whole separate set of activities to create that type of compliance reporting. Although Chevron is still deploying the system, the results have already been impressive. For example, one of its larger IT groups estimates it is already saving approximately one hour per server per month across its nearly 900 servers. While the resource savings are helpful, the real business benefit for Chevron is risk reduction. Were improving our risk position by creating greater visibility and enabling better and more accurate reporting, says Huttenhoff. Weve already made immediate improvements in risk. In the first 60 days one of our groups remediated 11,000 individual compliance items just by having this added visibility. Chevron is planning to extend the system with additional Symantec technology to automate the collection and monitoring and management of procedural controls. We recognize that automating the technical controls is only part of the overall compliance story, said Huttenhoff. To take their system to the next level, Chevron will round out its automation of technical controls through automated collection of information surrounding the procedural activities that are part of the compliance process. The compliance architecture of the technology solution is sound. We expect it will ultimately scale up to close to 10,000 servers, said Huttenhoff. The end result is that it takes compliance burdens off the radar and pushes them down into the day-to-day operations. But the real benefit is that it allows the business to focus on producing energy, not on compliance. VMware ES X Se r ver 3i VMware ESX Server 3i is the new architectural foundation for VMware Infrastructure 3, the most widely deployed virtualization software suite for optimizing and managing industry-standard IT environments. Virtualization as part of the hardware is the wave of the future, and my expectation is that in a few years everything will be virtualized, said Kevin Hickman, solutions architect of Server Design at Chevron. The small size and highly reliable design of VMware ESX Server 3i make it a natural fit for hardware integration. (Press release dated September 2007.) http://www.vmware.com/company/news/releases/esx3i.html RedP rai rie Bl ue C ube Ente rp ri se In May 2007 Chevron chose RedPrairies BlueCube Enterprise for their North American company-owned, company-operated stores and franchise sites. Chevron will implement the RedPrairie solution for a consistent way to measure and operate their company-owned sites and ExtraMile franchise sites. http://www.logisticsit.com/absolutenm/templates/articlesupplychain.aspx?articleid=3005&zoneid=5 Micr os oft S ha re Po int 20 0 7; S che ma Lo gic E nterpri se S uite Chevron and its subsidiaries use Microsoft SharePoint 2007 to share and exchange information. Yet, it was still a challenge for offices in one part of the world to use materials created by an office in another part of the world. And, the amount of information, shared electronically, was growing exponentially. As a result, the company faced a bit of chaos and a productivity hurdle that begged for more muscle. Chevron chose to combine its current document sharing system with a software solution that puts all the pieces together, no matter where they are in the world, uniting the information in such a precise way that accuracy was also ensured. Chevron began an information overhaul known as its Global Information Link (GIL), which evolved into a system that unifies desktop platforms across the company and provides connectivity to all employees on the corporate network. SchemaLogic Enterprise Suite (SES) for SharePoint 2007 is taking GIL to the next level, creating the infrastructure for an entirely new corporate information system called GIL3. For GIL3, Chevron enlisted SchemaLogic to manage and facilitate collaboration for its corporate File Plan, integrate it with the existing SharePoint system, and synchronize the entire process across the globe. The total package allows digital information assets to be described consistently, using names and tags within each SharePoint site. Corporate knowledge can adjust with the industry and stay relevant. When completed, Chevron will have deployed one of the largest implementations of SharePoint in the world, with SES playing a key role to make it happen. I was asked to bring more of a business focus and a stronger alignment with the business, Masada said. So I instituted Project Everest, which looked at providing the IT blueprint and the investment roadmap for investments going out five years. Everest is not an ICT project in the conventional sense; its a strategic framework for the companys biggest and most important ICT projects. Its intended to ensure that the projects that bring the biggest benefit to the company as a whole get the right funding at the right time, and that they get special management attention. Not all projects fall under the Everest umbrella, and nor should they, Masada says. Non-Everest projects are the thousands of smaller initiatives that may be important to one office or business unit but are not strategically important to the company as a whole. In fact, just 20 percent of the global downstream ICT projects are on the Everest roadmap, although they account for 90 percent of all project spending. Each of the projects under Everest has its own performance targets, including savings that are often in the hundreds of millions of dollars. In addition, Everest itself is expected to contribute US$150 million a year in savings and productivity increases, Masada said. What Everest does is make sure that the IT investments go towards projects that earn the company the most money. GIL 2 built-out the network and standard server infrastructure, providing connectivity to operations all over the world. GIL 3 will focus on information management. If GIL 1 and GIL 2 gave users the infrastructure they needed to work with one another, GIL 3 will give them the tools to do so. For example, GIL 3 will use new technology to tag information so it can be more easily found and shared. It will also create new governance policies and strengthen auditing procedures to ensure that new ICT standards are adhered to. That includes the adoption of ITIL standards for the management of ICT operations. GIL 3 will employ Microsofts Vista operating system and its SharePoint product suite for communication and collaboration. SharePoint, which Microsoft says is intended to connect people, processes and systems, will facilitate collaboration among employees, partners and customers, Masada said. With it, employees will be able to create and manage their own Web sites and make them available anywhere at Chevron. http://computerworld.co.nz/news.nsf/mgmt/CFDC74FCA1FA93AECC25721B000B8256 S un Lustre; HD S AM S 50 0 The Technical Computing team at Chevron Energy Technology Company (CETC) handles data processing for half a dozen or more Chevron business units. Between its two datacenters in San Ramon, Calif., and Houston, Texas, the team manages large networks that have networkattached storage (NAS) and rely on Network File System (NFS) to access files. In the last few years, extensive exploration for oil in deep water has resulted in an explosion of new data. Recent advances in technology make it possible for Chevron to collect as much as eight times more data than it did in the past. To keep pace with this rapid growth, the Technical Computing team found that it continually needed to add processors and machines so it could handle more modeling and image application jobs concurrently. With the need for additional hardware, keeping costs manageable was a primary concern. In 2005, the Technical Computing team decided to evaluate alternative file systems, including Sun Microsystemss Lustre. After testing and piloting the file system, the Technical Computing team put it into production in March 2006. Lustre was chosen for prestack depth imaging because it was the only parallel file system that met all of CETCs expectations for scalability and performance. These data centers are the centralized service hubs for the business units located in their respective areas. IT is looked after by a Chevron unit known as Information Technology Company (ITC). ITC provides IT services for the shared infrastructure for the corporation, which includes the desktop, file storage, network, facilities, application hosting, productivity tools (e.g. PDAs, Blackberry). Its user base is 50,000-plus Chevron employees in 186 countries. ITC is responsible for around 4,000 Compaq, HP, and Sun Solaris servers worldwide running mainly UNIX, Windows, and Linux, 50,000 HP desktops and IBM laptops all running on a Cisco-based network. Each data center has its own metropolitan area network (MAN). In Chevron, IT is not allowed to drive the business, said Tony Jurgens, storage technologist for ITC in May 2006. Instead, our customers - the various business units within the company - give us their objectives and we have to translate our IT actions into the realization of these business requirements. In terms of storage, each data center has a mix of SAN, DAS and NAS residing within them from a range of vendors such as NetApp, Hitachi and EMC. The main SAN elements are; HDS 9960, 9980 and 9570; Brocade 3800, 2800 and 2900; and Emulex HBA To implement tiers of service for its user community, ITC investigated newer technologies such as disk-to-disk, snapshot, etc. in order to integrate into the existing backup services. For now, the tiers at Chevron, as laid out by Jurgens, are as follows: Tier 1 - HDS TagmaStore to host the databases, data warehouses and for online transactions processing (OLTP); Tier 2 - HDS 9200/9570 and some NAS for active data such as file servers, seismic files, Excel spreadsheets and e-mail; Tier 3 - ATA disk and tape for static data such as reports, images and nearline archiving; and Tier 4 - offline tape for inactive data required for legal retention. The data mover employed to shift inactive data from Tier 2 to Tier 3 is Legato Disk Extender 2000. The moved data will not be retrieved from secondary storage unless changed. Thus when a user accesses an inactive file to look at the contents, it is read from the lower cost storage device instead of being recalled to primary storage. NetApp R200 is being used in Tier 3 for nearline storage. This

storage is harnessed for a wide variety of applications. First and for most, it addresses Chevrons growing volume of unstructured data that hasnt been accessed in over a year. Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) to make disk backups of the Oracle database. Oracle RMAN offers the ability to back up the database to any media, whether it is tape or disk. The focus of the Oracle RMAN to disk backup project is to have the RMAN tool back up the databases to disk. Once this is on disk, Legato NetWorker backs up these files as normal flat files with no concern to database intervention. Application Hosting Disaster Recovery for mission critical apps. This involves backing up databases to disk and then snap mirroring to a reciprocating data center (between Houston and San Ramon and vice versa). This project uses the NetApp R200 as the storage device for mission critical backups. The Snap Mirror software that comes with the NetApp copies the data to the reciprocating data center. Exchange Email documents. This project stored email documents on the R200- again this addressed the cost of the storage. ITC needs approximately 5-6 TB between Houston and San Ramon. This project is still in the proto-type phase and is still evaluating various software components in terms of storage management software, Chevron has opted for HP OpenView Storage Area Management (OVSAM). The company is leveraging its ability to provide capacity planning reports, trending analysis, and asset reporting. This allows ITC to provide more accurate budget forecasting. Currently, ITC is upgrading to OVSAM 3.2 to address issues with previous versions per a recommendation from HP. ITC plans to continue the upgrade of its storage environment by implementing disk-to-disk backup, initially for email. Jurgens explains the vital necessity of this move. In particular, the company is using Zantas to archive Exchange documents to lower-cost storage. ITC is reviewing the current backup infrastructure design, which was based on 5-year old technology. The organization needs to first understand the impact of integration of new technologies such as snapshot technology, disk-to-disk backups, electronic vaulting. ITC is also reviewing the potential of putting its Oracle databases on Tier 2 NAS versus Tier 1/2 SAN. Another important project on the immediate horizon is aimed at Windows App Servers using centralized storage. Analysts are reviewing the potential impact of server virtualization and how this will integrate with the overall storage infrastructure. Based on discussions with Oracle, hierarchical storage management may be built into the Oracle product set in the next year or so. Chevron is looking at how it can leverage this technology. Working with IBM, Chevron has been able to process data up to seven times faster, enabling the company to make quicker, more accurate choices before drilling. Oil exploration and drilling are expensive undertakings, and both time and accuracy are critical. Chevron relies on sub-surface pictures of its land to choose where to drill and minimize the associated risks. By running its depth imaging technology on more than 700 nodes of dual AMD Opteron processor-based IBM cluster, Chevron is able to turn data around faster, improving processing time and productivity while lowering operating costs. Chevrons cluster runs Linux and provides compatibility for both 32-bit and 64-bit applications, allowing Chevron to continue running some 32-bit applications while taking advantage of 64-bit computing. Chevrons top priority is growing its business and serving partners, not IT. By choosing an IBM e326-based cluster powered by AMD Opteron processors, Chevron created a platform that allows it to achieve its goals while operating more efficiently. The IBM e326 is a high-performance 1U server that was expanded to include support for Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors. Microsofts SQL Server 2005 is used for data extraction, transformation and loading. SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is a new application that provides a data integration platform making it easier for the nondeveloper to support creation of custom tasks and data transformations. Recent IT strategies include Global Information Link (GIL), which standardized employee desktops worldwide. GIL connected people, information, and processes more effectively than ever before and saved the company tens of millions in operating costs every year. More recently, Chevron has implemented NetReady, to provide next-generation networks for its growing global businesses, supporting new data demands, and enabling more than 150 significant Web and ebusiness initiatives that are underway to improve operations or reduce costs. Other enhancements include GIL 2, which involves further upgrades to employee hardware and software; improved security; and the establishment of a centre for Web applications development. RealTec h Imp leme ntatio n: Mi cros oft SQ L Serve r 7.0 (Ca nada ) By standardizing on the SQL Server 7.0 platform, Chevron Canada Limited has been able to increase the speed and reliability of its transaction processing. The new system has virtually eliminated downtime, and the company is beginning to realize a very attractive return on its investment. Particularly vital from the companys point of view was the level locking feature of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. If many changes are made to the system, the update process of the database can become backlogged. This, in turn, degrades the performance of the database. The level locking of version 7.0 eliminated that problem and gave Chevron the performance it was looking for in a database solution. During the deployment of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, the IT team experienced no major hitches. Deployment took approximately three weeks and the system went live with 300 named users and a 45-gigabyte database. Helping with the installation was RealTech of Seattle, a consultancy firm with expertise in SAP migration. In 2002, the firm performed the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 over two 48-hour weekends, a relatively short amount of time considering the amount of data involved. Development and other work were performed on the first weekend, with production occurring on the second weekend. Production was a more complex process involving pre-processing, removal and post processing of the old data, followed by pre and post-processing of the new data to be entered. Further, the company utilizes storage directly to drive the bottom line. The modern organization marches on storage, like the soldier marches on his stomach, says Alan Nunns, former GM of global strategy at Chevron. This is especially true in the oil business due to its information intensity. He estimates that the massive global IT and storage machine behind Chevron adds 1 cent a gallon to the price of gas. But he believes that current gas prices would be much higher now if it wasnt for storage technology advancing the art of exploration and cutting the amount of test drilling required by a factor of five. Without the use of 3D seismic data and a massive repository of well managed data, gas might cost $6 a gallon by now, says Nunns. The ability to find, share, and use business intelligence faster enables Chevron employees worldwide to do more with their talents, their time, and the companys assets. For example, accounting groups routinely worked until 2 a.m. to complete the companys monthly financials. Now they close the books easily, within regular working hours, month after month. A successful outsourcing arrangement requires foresight, analysis and the right partners, he says. Unfortunately, a lot of companies made some mistakes, because they didnt realize all of the implications associated with outsourcing, and they didnt have the internal structures to manage it effectively. As a result, many of them failed. And when that happens too often at a company, the pendulum swings the other way, and many of the outsourced processes are brought back in-house.

Chevron, in fact, is an example of that trend. The company recently arranged to bring back inhouse some activities that it had previously outsourced. In making these decisions, though, the company created a careful long-term strategy for evaluating in-sourcing and outsourcing decisions. We decided that it made sense to create a balanced portfolio of both insourced and outsourced activities, says Nitz in summarizing the new strategy. For example, in telecommunications, Chevron based its outsourcing strategy on three factors. The first was creation of a strategic retention model, which determined what functions Chevron wants to retain inside and what less strategic functions would it make sense to outsource. The second factor related to internal control. We wanted to be in control of our overall design and architecture, says Nitz about the outsourcing consideration. Third, Nitz realized internal Chevron team members would provide the best insights into Chevrons needs and could best make strategic decisions. As a result of the balanced portfolio approach to insourcing and outsourcing that Nitz and his team developed, Chevron has been able to save about 15 percent in the telecommunications area. http://www.purchasing.com/article/CA6320326.html Vis ual Mi ni ng NetC ha rts App lets Chevron needed to chart their profit margin analyses from corporate databases easily and quickly for both sales and management.
