To God be the Glory!

When Josh Manning finished preaching last Sunday, Kortney Cravens walked down the aisle, responding to the invitation of the Lord. She stated that she had been away from God for some time, and now she realizes that she needs Him in her life again. What a wonderful God we serve, in that He gives each of us second chances, if we will but respond to His loving call and repent of wrong. May we give Him glory for this, and may we pray for Kortney and encourage her as she begins her walk with Him again. I want to remind our elders, deacons and preachers that we will have a very special meeting Monday night. In that regularly-scheduled meeting, we will be taking time to begin brainstorming our goals for 2012. While there is still work to be done on many of our 2011 goals, we must begin to look forward. Please come to the meeting prepared with visionary and uplifting goals that will help us move forward in 2012. Have you ever felt discouraged? Have you ever felt as if, in the work of the Lord, you were not adequate for a particular work, or that your time had passed you by? If you

have ever felt that way, then this mornings sermon is for you. We want to look at the amazing example of Caleb, and notice how he helps us continue to reach forward in our service to God. You can keep going and continue to be fruitful. Tonight, we will begin a two-part lesson on marriage. It is the goal of these two lessons to help us prevent divorce in our existing marriages, and to help those who may marry in the future to have the necessary information to help them go into marriage prepared to make it last a lifetime. Tonight, we will look mostly at Biblical material, then next week we will look more at some practical material based on Biblical principles. I hope you will be here for these lessons. Are you praying for our Gospel Meeting? Its just over one month away, and Im sure that brother Eddie Craft will have excellent lessons for us, but we must support the meeting with prayer, attendance, encouragement and invitations. Why not send a first invite to a friend this week?

New Class this Fall

Beginning next month we will again be offering the "Crisis Care, Hope for the Hurting" class on Wednesday evenings. This is a video series by Dr. H. Norman Wright that deals with things that cause grief, such as the loss of a loved one, job loss, health issues, divorce or relationships. It also gives instructions for those that would like to learn better how to assist others in times of grief, such as what to say and do as well as what not to say and do during the various stages of the grieving process. We also want to invite others including relatives, friends, neighbors or anyone you know that might have an interest in these classes. It is also open for those who have already par-

ticipated and would like to increase their skills in caring for others. The class will meet in the fellowship hall and those attending will not assemble in the auditorium but go directly to class for a brief devotional followed by the videos. This will allow more time to accommodate the videos. A sign up sheet has been placed in the foyer so that we may know how much material will be needed. For more information, see either Philip Denny or Joe Adams.

THE TROUBLE WITH COMFORMITY I guess everyone has heard the remarkable stories about the lemmings---rugged little animals about the size of mice that, according to legends from Europe, occasionally migrated by the millions for days and nights until they reach the coast. When they reach the sea, they just keep on going, swimming straight out until they drown. We hear a curious story like that, and we wonder why such a thing happens. There are several theories about it, one of which claims that its natures way of regulating the lemming population---which isnt true, by the way. Have you ever thought much about how people have a tendency to blindly follow another, or to conform so easily? (Story by Earl Nightingale )

JDs Jargon
Hello everyone, It has been quite some time since I have written an article. As you know, we gave Josh the opportunity to write articles this summer as a way to let the congregation get to know him a little better. Josh was a great intern. The youth really enjoyed his company and I appreciated all the hard work he put into the youth program. Josh will start preaching at the Clearview church of Christ in Lyles, TN in September. I know he will do great work for the Lord at that congregation. We will miss him, but we pray God will bless his efforts in Lyles, TN. We are conducting services at Heatland Sunday afternoon at 4 PM. I need help with this service so if you can join us, please do! Our next youth devotional is Sunday, August 28 at the Witt's home. Have a great day! --JD
