Naval Command & Information Systems

Talisman M Unmanned Underwater Vehicle

The dependable partner of choice Our flexible state-of-the-art naval command & information system solutions give our customers the information superiority they need to help them make mission critical decisions.
Our range of intelligent unmanned autonomous systems includes the multi-role Talisman family of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), which provide a flexible surveillance and protection capability for key facilities and assets, including harbours, inshore mine countermeasures and a range of oceanographic missions. Talisman M integrates the remote capability with the platforms combat system and mission payloads. This provides a total system capability for MCM, combining the "detect", "classify" and "neutralise" missions into a single system solution. Talisman can be operated from a fixed or mobile Talisman M deployment from a ship of opportunity command station. It can be integrated with command & information systems aboard naval vessels or land-based vehicles, or operated from a portable terminal. The latest generation UUV Talisman has a development lineage from a test bed UUV built in 1991 with support from the Department of Trade and Industrys Wealth From the Oceans programme and the Marlin 21 inch diameter UUV built for the UK MoD. Technology evolution from these vehicles has provided a robust, reliable platform for the maritime environment. Development of unmanned air vehicle technology Harbour deployment of Talisman M now enables a UUV to be linked into a network of unmanned assets and combat systems elements.

MULTI-ROLE APPROACH

Talisman is an integrated system of Command & Control remote vehicle and payload. Common system elements for autonomy and communications coupled into a reconfigurable structure allow mission flexibility and provide for a wide range of maritime capabilities. A payload capability of 500 kg in Talisman M provides flexibility for carrying single shot vehicles such as Archerfish and survey vehicles thereby providing the means of extending the capability of these systems for a wide range of MCM, survey and oceanographic tasks. Talisman M is designed to operate in littoral and riverine waters from vessels of opportunity. Key features include: Advanced communication capability Open architecture modular approach Scaleable design Hovering capability.
