LOCAL slimmer Helen Thomas is on top of the world after losing all her excess weight with Slimming World. Helen who felt unhappy about her size, joined her local Slimming World group in October 2009 after being told about it by a friend My weight had spiralled out of control and I knew I had to do something about it. remembered Helen, So after being recommended by a friend I went along to my local Slimming World Group. I felt quite nervous about walking through the doors, on my first night, but the

consultant immediately put me at ease. She then explained all about the Slimming World Food Optimising Plan, which was really generous and meant that I never had to go hungry, because of all the free food that I could eat as much as I wanted to. I love my food,and eat out regularly, so that was great for me. ExErCiSE Helen then began going for short walks and going to the gym to help with the weight loss. By Christmas she had lost almost 1 1/2 stones and as time went on and she was losing more and more weight, she started to do longer walks and eventually she increased her fitness level so much that she was able to go with her husband on mountain walks. In June 2010 Helen reached her target weight after losing a fantastic 2 1/2 stones! Moving onwards and upwards, next Helen did the Race for Life with her daughter Mel who had lost a stone by also joining the group. The next goal Helen set herself was to walk up Mount Snowdon, followed by Scafell Pyke and then, Ben Nevis, achieving the National Three Peaks with her husband, something she would never had dreamed of doing before losing the weight. She did it on hot summers days and in record time too!

The 8th Ellesmere Port Scouting Group would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who attended our Celebratory Day on in June 2011 to celebrate our 70th anniversary as a group. Particular thanks must go to The Blue Planet who generously donated 250.00 worth of tables and benches for camping and our Outdoor adventure cottage. Mums on the run

Many of the mums, girls and staff from Little Sutton CE Primary School (Berwick Road) took part in Race for Life events to help support Cancer Research. It is a charity close to our hearts as so many people that we know have been touched by this disease in some way. One of our teachers Mrs Claire Randa is returning to work this term, following her treatment. This has been our school communitys way of helping to contribute to the on going fight against cancer and we thank everyone for supporting us either by taking part, or by sponsoring those that entered. Fun day remembers Jordan A fun day was held at the University Church of England Academy (UCEA) to honour brave student Jordan Rose. Jordan, who was from Little Sutton, died from a rare form of leukaemia. The fun day raised funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, at Backford, and a Rose Garden was opened in memory of the 15-year-old former student.

Waterfront facelift

Works have been carried out to improve and enhance Ellesmere Ports waterfront for both local people and visitors alike. The project, undertaken by local contractor Booher Construction Ltd, included painting bollards, replacing a large area of missing paving, repairing chain fencing and clearing large areas overgrown with weeds.

Friday 2nd September A talk by author Hilary Green at Little Sutton Library. The author of many books and scripts for the BBC will talk about her life and works. Hilary is well known for her series of family saga novels. She is also a trained actress and has spent many years teaching drama, one of her star pupils being the current James Bond, Daniel Craig. A range of free activities on offer including Dr Bike Cycle Surgery, bring you own bike for a health check and assistance with minor repairs. This is offered on a first come first served basis. There will also be giant games such as Chess, Connect 4, hoops & space hoppers, craft and music workshops, and stalls from local organisations such as The Links Healthy Living Centre and Groundwork Cheshire.
