Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering Design Criteria

1 INTRODUCTION Control of the design, engineering, procurement, and construction activities on the project will be completed in accordance with various predetermined standard practices and project specific programs / practices. An orderly sequence of events for the implementation of the project is planned consisting of the following major activities:

Conceptual design Licensing and permitting etailed design Procurement; Construction and construction management Start-up, testing, and checkout; and Project completion

The purpose of this appendix is to summarize the codes, standard design criteria and practices that will be used during the project. The general plumbing and fire protection design criteria defined herein form the basis of the design for the fire protection components and systems of the project. More specific design information is developed during detailed design to support equipment and erection specifications. It is not the intent of this appendix to present the detailed design information for each component and system, but rather to summarize the codes, standards, and general criteria that will be used. Section 2 of this appendix summarizes the applicable codes and standards, Section 3 of this appendix includes the general design criteria and Section 4 describes about piping and valve design. 2 DESIGN CODES AND STANDARDS The design and specification of all work shall be in accordance with all applicable codes and standards of international code or the local and regional governmental agencies, and generally accepted industry standards organizations. 3 GENERAL ENGINEERING DESIGN CRITERIA 3.1 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM. Fire protection system design will be complied with the Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems 2007 Edition (NFPA14) Class II System. It shall be provided with 11/2-in. (38.1-mm) hose stations so that all portions of each floor level of the building are within 130 ft (39.7 m) of a hose connection provided with 11/2-in. (38.1-mm) hose The minimum flow rate for the hydraulically most remote standpipe shall be 100 gpm (379 L/min). Additional flow shall not be required where more than one standpipe is provided. The pressure of 65 psi (4.5 bar) at the outlet of the hydraulically most remote 11/2-in. (38.1-mm) hose station. Black steel Welded and Seamless schedule 40 comply to ASTM A53/A53M Standard Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated, Welded and Seamless or equivalent will be selected to use for above ground piping installation of this system 3.2 PLUMBING SYSTEM Plumbing system design will be complied with the International plumbing code (IPC) 2006 Edition. All the systems bellow will be designed base on this Standard code:

Hot water supply system. Cold water supply system. Waste water drainage system. Rain water drainage system.

3.2.1 Hot water supply system. Electrical water heater storage tank will be designed and selected to generate hot water. Cold water at temperature of 10c enters to electrical water heater to generate hot water at temperature of 60c to supply to various sanitary fixtures at different room as per room requirement. Polypropylene (PP-R) Pipe PN20 comply to ASTM F2389 Specification for Pressure-rated Polypropylene (PP-R) Piping Systems or equivalent will be selected to use for above ground piping installation of this system 3.2.2 Cold water supply system.

The design of cold water distribution system will be designed to minimize the power consumption and water usage for the whole service in hospital. Underground water storage tank will be designed and selected as per cold water requirement of one day consumption for the usage in the hospital. One set of automatic transfer pump completed with main accessories and control panel to convey water from underground water tank to elevated water tank at roof floor. The gravity cold water distribution system flows from elevated water tank to various sanitary fixtures at men and women toilet facility and room services of the hospital. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe comply to ASTM D3350 with a Plastic Pipe Institute rating of PE 3406 or 3408 or equivalent will be selected to use for the underground piping installation of this system. Polypropylene (PP-R) Pipe PN10 comply to ASTM F2389 Specification for Pressure-rated Polypropylene (PP-R) Piping Systems or equivalent will be selected to use for above ground piping installation of this system 3.2.3 Waste water drainage system. Waste water drainage system will be designed to convey waste water from various men and women toilet and sanitary fixtures at room of hospital to septic tanks and discharge to nearest public drainage system. Upvc pipe class 8.5 comply to ASTM D2241 Standard Specification for Poly(Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Pressure-Rated Pipe (SDR Series) or equivalent will be selected to use in this system. 3.2.4 Rain water drainage system. Rain water drainage system will be designed to convey rain water from the roof gutter of building discharge to U-channel around the building and discharge to the nearest public drainage system. Upvc pipe class 8.5 complies to ASTM D2241 Standard Specification for Poly (Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Pressure-Rated Pipe (SDR Series) or equivalent will be selected to use in this system. 4 PIPING DESIGN 4.1 PIPING MATERIAL Piping materials will be in accordance with applicable ASTM, and ASME standards. Materials to be incorporated in permanent systems will be new, unused, and undamaged. Piping materials will be in accordance with the following criteria:

Carbon steel piping 2-inch nominal size and smaller will be ASTM A53 or A106, Grade B. Carbon steel piping 2-1/2 inch through 24-inch nominal size will be ASTM A53 Grade B seamless (welded seam pipe shall be used for low-pressure water) or A106 Grade B, with the indicated grades as a minimum. Underground piping materials will be non-metallic, ductile iron, concrete or carbon steel. The material selection will be in accordance with service requirements. Metallic underground piping will be wrapped in accordance with American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe will conform to ASTM D1785 or ASTM D2241. High-density polyethylene pipe will conform to ASTM D3350 with a Plastic Pipe Institute rating of PE 3406 or 3408. Pressure-rated Polypropylene (PP-R) Piping Systems will conform to ASTM F2389

4.2 FITTING MATERIALS Fittings will be constructed of materials equivalent to the pipe with which they are used, except for special cases such as lined steel pipe.

Steel Fittings. Steel fittings 2-1/2 inches and larger will be of the butt welding type or groove type and steel fittings 2 inches and smaller will be of the socket steel fittings threaded. Butt Welded Fittings. The wall thickness of butt weld fittings will be equal to the pipe wall thickness with which they are used. The fittings will be manufactured in accordance with ANSI B16.9. ANSI B16.28, and ASTM A234 or ASTM A403. Forged Steel Fittings. Forged steel fittings will be used for socket weld and steel threaded connections and will conform to ANSI Bl6.11.

4.3 PIPE SUPPORTS AND HANGERS The term pipe supports includes all assemblies such as hangers, floor stands, anchors, guides, brackets, sway braces, vibration dampeners, and any supplementary steel required to attach pipe supports. 4.4 DESIGN AND SELECTION CRITERIA All support materials, design, and construction will be in accordance with the latest applicable provisions of the Power Piping Code, ASME B31-1 4.5 VALVES Valve pressure classes, sizes, types, body materials, and end preparations will generally be as described herein. Special features and special application valves will be utilized where required. Steel body gate, globe, angle, and check valves will be designed and constructed in accordance with ANSI B16.34 as applicable. 5 STORAGE TANKS (Concrete water tank) Water tanks shall be designed and erected in accordance with AWWA D-100, latest edition will be in accordance with the International Building Code (IBC).
