First Baptist Church Naples

Put Me in, Coach

Someone compared football to the modern day church - 22 people on the field desperately in need of rest and hundreds in the stands desperately in need of exercise. Christianity is not a spectator religion. God calls every Christian to say, Put me in, coach; here am I, send me. Sharing the gospel is our exercise, with evangelism being the lifeblood of the church. God is seeking for a man among them who will stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30). He is still looking for recruits today who will take the hits like the early apostles, who knew that life is a contact sport. When threatened with punishment and even death, they replied, We cannot stop speaking what we have seen and heard (Acts 4:20). They had been with Jesus and greatly impressed even their enemies with their authority and knowledge (Acts 4:13). They were willing to receive on-the-job-training for three years under the Master. They had wisdom more than book learnin. Their intimacy with the Savior was more important than the formal training of the ritualistic Jewish system. It is not what you know, but Who you know and Whose you are. The apostles demonstrated something of the creativity of the pastor who was asked on an airplane what he did for a living. He grabbed the interest of his fellow passenger by responding: I am in the largest company in the world and involved in behavior modification. We have offices in every major city. We are the fastest growing concern in the world and offer life and fire insurance, great retirement benefits, and such team spirit that we would die for each other. Anybody can be a part of this company. When asked the name of this concern, he simply answered, The church of Jesus Christ. Such a deal! What an opportunity! I would like to recruit you to be a part of Gods team and company, following the examples of the apostles and millions of Christians through the years in our upcoming FAITH Evangelism semester. You will learn how to share your faith about what we have seen and heard Christ. God wants to use all of us for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12). Your commitment to a semester beginning on September 11 and ending in November will be life-changing for you and others. Its game time.

Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and Sunday morning service. Come and meet Pastor Hayes.

Equipping People to Share

I Peter 3:15 ...always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you... It is imperative that we, as a local New Testament Church, equip you to share the hope that is in you. That equipping will begin next Sunday, September 11 at 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship/Recreation Building (Old Gym). You can sign up for this training in the Worship Service or in your Bible and Life Group. For more information, call 596-8600 x280. Here are just a few of the testimonies of those that have been equipped: We are happy to relate what an energizing JOY and BLESSING it is to share the gospel. To put feet to our faith is always an investment in eternity. Our Outreach Program is a real and tangible work for the Kingdom that not only impacts those we visit who desperately need Jesus Christ and the peace, hope, and joy that He can bring into their lives, but, also, is a wonderful blessing to me personally. The obedience of sharing the gospel, as directed by Jesus Himself in Matthew 28 brings me to a closer and more personal relationship with God than any other thing I do for Him. We were always amazed at how the Holy Spirit used us in leading others to Christ. He directed us several times to just the right person at just the right time to receive Christ. It was like those people were anxiously awaiting. Praise God for the leading of the Holy Spirit! Last fall, the mother of one of my coworkers was in the hospital with colon cancer. I asked if I could come and pray with them and she said yes. I went to see them and, while visiting, the Holy Spirit directed the conversation to the status of her mothers salvation. I shared several verses of Scripture and her mother prayed to receive Christ. You never know when you may be asked to share the gospel, be ready! I Peter 3:15!
