all activities involving hand tools are closely supervised & done in small groups pupils who are likely to cause injury to themselves or others are prohibited from using hand tools; clear instructions are issued to pupils as to the hazards associated with the tools they are using; all tools are inspected prior to use for wear and tear. If unsafe, do not use and dispose of effectively; if tools are electrical in nature, the cables will be checked for any wear and tear, fraying or over-heating stains. If unsafe, do not use and dispose of effectively; a demonstration of how to use the tools safely is provided; tools are issued using a counting in and out system ; tools are kept secure when not in use to prevent unauthorised use; First aid arrangements are in place; CLEAPPS Guide L111 Tools & Techniques in Primary Design & Technology is used by staff as a reference document prior to the use of hand tools. all activities involving hand tools are closely supervised; pupils who are likely to cause injury to themselves or others are prohibited from using hand tools; clear instructions are issued to pupils as to the hazards associated with tool; First aid arrangements are in place; CLEAPPS Guide L111 Tools & Techniques in Primary Design & Technology is used by staff as a reference document prior to the use of hand tools.

all activities involving hand tools are closely supervised; clear instructions are issued to pupils as to the hazards associated with the possible ejection of materials; eye protection is available and worn; First aid arrangements are in place. good cable management/ housekeeping is maintained; spills/waste materials are cleaned up in a timely manner; pupils are instructed to tidy up when finished lesson, replace materials and tools in storage cupboards. the equipment is tested for electrical safety in accordance with County Council requirements for portable electrical equipment; low voltage equipment is supplied where practicable; equipment is not used close to a sink or draining area; staff carry out a visual check of electrical equipment/ sockets before use; there are sufficient sockets available; the use of extension cables is limited ; instructions/reminders given to pupils on the dangers associated with electricity; good housekeeping is maintained; fire fighting equipment is provided ; an Emergency Plan is in place and is known by staff and pupils. Fire Exits are kept clear from obstructions
