Section 1: Title of proposed investigation U.Ks clubbing culture and impact of the recession on this culture. Section 2: Key words Clubbing cultures Recession Impact United Kingdom Section 3: Aims of research This research is done to analyse the changes in the trend of clubbing in U.K before and after recession. It also analyse and find out that whether this change in the trend of clubbing in U.K. is either due to recession or any other reason and how much this change have an impact on the clubbing business. Section 4: Background Night Clubs are the part of U.K. culture. It is also known as disco or discotheques. Night clubs are first come into sight in 20th century as the places where alcohol is sold (sometime illegally), there is live music and people dance on the music (www.bostonnightclubs.com). The main customers of night clubs are youth and mainly student. Throughout the 20th century nightclubs grew in number and variety. The night clubs back in history is the notion of gathering people at night for any celebration and often dancing and mating as it is today. However the only difference between history and todays night clubs is that todays night clubs have very loud music, dark ambience that not allowed to talk or even thought (www.ehow.com). However during 21st century mainly from 2005 till now there is a change
3

in the trend (mintel, 2010). According to a report it has been found that not only recession , however there are some other reasons like increasing competition and ban on smoking also have an impact on the clubs which also effect the business. Section 5: Research question/Hypothesis Exact questions to be answered 1. What is the main reason behind the change in the trend in clubbing? 2. To what extent this change affects the business? Section 6: Data collection Strategically, to conduct this research I would opt the following methods of data collection and these are questionnaires which include yes/no and a statement type, structured interviews are done face to face with staff that include manager and lower staff and also one to one interviews are done with managers and also if possible then with customers and documents are also considered as important source of information which include web pages, reports from databases. Sample size is limited to 50 people that include staff and customers. A response rate of 50% is expected. Purpose and random sampling will be employed to collect the data. This research would take 4 months that is 1 June 2011 to 30 Aug 2011. The primary locations for data collection will be night clubs. Section 7: Methodology The question in this research is mainly focus around the youth and their life in night club. It also try to answer the following question that is what is the night club culture in U.K. and how much it is effected by recession and any other factor. As we all know that night club is

mainly associated with youth that is why all the data collection tools are designed by keeping youth in mind. The questionnaires that are going to be used in this research are combination of both open and closed questions. In this research two types of questionnaires that will use are yes/no type and a statement type. The reason behind using this type of questionnaire is the advantage of both. According to Denscombe (2010, p165) the advantage of open questions is respondent have enough space to express themselves and researchers get full information for the answers. Similarly for closed questions Denscombe (2010, p166) said that in this type of questionnaires researcher can structure the answers by allowing the answers that fit into the category. The advantage of this is that researcher gets a pre-coded data and it is easy to analyse. Interviews are also very important for research purpose. According to IAR (Instructional Assessment Resources), these are one-on-one direct conversation with an individual using a series of questions designed to elicit extended responses. For this research, structured interviews and one to one interviews are going to be used. According to Denscombe (2010, p174) structured interviews involved tight control over the format of the questions and answers .The researcher has a pre-determined list of questions, to which the respondent is invited to offer limited option responses. In these types of interviews wording and range of questions are also controlled and even the responses. Due to these pre-coded answers, data analysis is relatively easy. Another type of interviews that are used is one to one interviews. This type of interviews is between only one researcher and one informant. These are easier to arrange, easy to control and easy to analyse the data. The third tool of research that is used to complete this research is documents. They are also important. They can be written documents, visual and sound. In this research documents like

web pages, reports and article are going to be used for the information. The advantage of using documents is this information is always available for the researcher. Section 8: Resources and Planning

Section 10: Limitations This research is done on part time basis and with limited financial resources. The limitation in this research is that night clubs are only opened in night and managers will be busier at that time. So the problem is how to get their time. Section 11: Outcome The major outcome of this research project is to answer the question that is there any change in the night clubs culture of U.K. and does this change is due to recession or any other reasons. Another question that this research will answer is that this change does have any impact on the business of clubs or not. Section 12: Reference annoyms. (2010). nightclubs in u.k..
