com CAREER SUMMARY

Developer with proven ability to design and implement software solutions for specific business objectives. Have provided technical leadership for key projects that required an uninterrupted software environment. Sought out for consultation on the resolution to matters ranging from day-to-day software development issues to complex solutions for major projects.

WORK EXPERIENCE Dec 1999 July 2011 Northrop Grumman Information Sector Dallas, TX. z/OS Mainframe Programmer/Analyst in the Technical Support arm of Database Administration on behalf of the Vought customer.
PLUS (Project Library Utility System), a DB2 / SQL / Cobol / REXX / ISPF Dialog, in-house written Software Configuration Tool / Workbench o Serve as Software Configuration Administrator o Substantially revised PLUS by studying it having no architectural documentation available to learn its structure to create new functionality. The revision required new Cobol and SQL to handle the control data stored in the DB2 tables, new REXX and ISPF Dialogs to control its execution, testing and releasing the new version. o Provided transitional training on PLUS for development staff. Software migration off mainframe to another platform o Designed a technique to transform an IMS database into an Oracle schema of tables that maintains the IMS key structure. o Provided REXX / ISPF Dialog tools to automate the download of DB2, IMS, Flat File and source code data into flat files that could FTP to another platform. IMS and DB2 data was put in loadable form for loading to Oracle. Conversion to Enterprise Cobol and the Language Environment o Served as Technical Lead for simultaneous conversion from VS Cobol II to Enterprise Cobol, and to the Language Environment (LE). o Devised the solution that maintained both the LE and non-LE environments as executable, yet entirely separate based upon great familiarity with Cobol, the Linkage Editor, SQL, JCL and the z/OS operating environment. o Developed and implemented new REXX / ISPF Dialog tool designed especially for this project; trained and guided developers in its use. Y2K conversion project o Provided technical Leadership. o Trained developers in the techniques for making changes and using the selected tool for identifying and handling those changes. o Saved substantial Y2K conversion time and cost by providing a new interface routine that accepted all the various names, inputs and outputs of many different date processors then called the one new processor to handle all the work.

Date Conversion Routine rewrite o Completely rewrote the ALC production date processor to handle 23 different forms of dates and 12 different operations on dates, combining the ability to handle multiple date data formats (such as integer, packed decimal and displayable), time zones, and various methods of century windowing thus paving the way to a simplified Y2K conversion. o Simplified developers use of the date processor by developing a REXX / ISPF Dialog codewriter to write Cobol, FORTRAN or ALC code that invokes the date processor from an application program eliminating a developers need to remember the coding techniques to invoke it. Application Support o Provide maintenance oversight for two applications. Both are Cobol and use IMS/DC with MFS. One predominantly uses IMS databases, the other uses DB2 with SQL embedded in the COBOL. o Developed new Mass Update tool for making customer-driven data updates. This REXX / ISPF Dialog tool saved many programming hours. Developer Support o Created approximately 150 programmer productivity tools, mostly using REXX, and many that use ISPF Dialog that serve the day-to-day needs of the development staff. o Served as the go-to contact for creating new solutions for developer job needs. o Resident developer consultant regarding Cobol, SQL, JCL, resolution of abends, and also providing how-tos and technical advice. o Oriented new employees / contractors to the development tools and standards along with insuring that the new persons user ID is set up correctly. o Maintained the vast array of in-house written ALC routines throughout production. Second-level help-desk user support for TSO, ISPF, QMF.

1987 Dec 1999

Vought Aircraft / Northrop Grumman Dallas, TX. Quality Systems application programmer.
Quality Systems application support o Served with development group to write and maintain the Quality Departments applications. A crowning achievement was an application that automated the withholding tag that contained an electronic signature buyoff and floating sections in the document. This application was so successful, our customer wanted to implement it at their plant. o Converted many of the Quality Systems applications from OS/VS Cobol to VS Cobol II. o Developed skill in interviewing the customer to formalize requirements for new systems or new system capabilities. o Partnered with the customer during requirements interviews and testing scenarios to learn how they used their systems in order to develop stronger system and data integrity. Quality System development staff support o Developed many productivity tools for the Quality programming staff, one of which became a heavily used language compiler access workbench, even outside the Quality development group. o Applied FORTRAN and ISPF knowledge to create and develop a management tool for the Quality Systems manager to identify applications that were in work and show where in its life-cycle that application fell. o Assumed responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the Defect Reporting System, a major Quality tracking and reporting system.

Estimated quality labor expended on material review documents as part of the cost of defects. Attended a large number of classes offered in the Computer Education Department acquiring many of the skills that have been career-long assets. Transformed an overnight batch data editing process into an online immediate turnaround, greatly facilitating preparations for the weekly batch run of the Defect Reporting System.
