Where life interacts with infrastructure.

Nu Flow Has Solution for Deteriorating Pipes

Nu Flow successfully completed a multi-million dollar inside-infrastructure pipe-lining project with minimal disruption to the facilitys operations. By using both epoxy coating and structural lining technologies, Nu Flow was able to rehabilitate various piping systems at the same time. A key benefit to the customer is dealing with one company, Nu Flow, that can renovate all of their pipe systems including drains and potable water lines. Project: Rehabilitate various potable and drain systems using Nu Flows epoxy coatings and structural liners without displacing residents. Customer: Plymouth Harbor on Sarasota Bay, Florida, a non-profit, multi-structure, luxury retirement complex. Site: A 25-story residential tower, three additional three-story structures and a fully functioning medical wing at Plymouth Harbors year-round 95 percent occupied facility. System: Potable 4 copper pipes and 12 chilled water lines as well as their completely enclosed sanitary lines consisting of cast iron and PVC running 260 feet up the middle of the main tower. Situation: The walls and floors of the building masked weakened pipe systems inside and below the structures. The drain lines within the complex had deteriorated over the years and were quickly reaching the point of failure. The plans called for rehabilitating the inside infrastructure, including the vertical sanitary lines and paper thin cast iron pipes running through the middle of a busy hospital wing. Solution: The Plymouth Harbor board awarded Nu Flow the contract based on their reputation, non-invasive technologies and the ability to handle both the sanitary and potable lines at the same time. Nu Flows solutions saved the customer from the need to displace or relocate residents. Cleaning and lining the potable system and chiller lines using Nu Flows epoxy coatings restored the pipes. As for the sanitary drain pipes, Nu Flow was unable to use high-pressure jetting to clean the horizontal cast lines since they had deteriorated to the point that jetting would have torn them apart. Instead, Nu Flow used remote-operated robotic reaming tools to clean the interior of the pipes and prepare them for lining. CIPP liners were then pulled into place from multiple access points.

Using proprietary tools and methods to clean out the interiors of the piping system, we were able to restore the cast iron back to its original diameter...all the while allowing the hospital to continue caring for patients.
