What is PMP & PMP Examination ?

PMIs Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a globally recognized and the most sought after project management certification across various industries around the globe. The PMP certification immediately & clearly demonstrates the holders experience, education and competency to successfully lead and direct projects. As of 31 July 2011, there were 451868 PMP certified individuals worldwide (Source: PMI Today September 2011 issue page 11) . Due to its well established industry-recognition across the globe, more and more organizations are seeking PMP certified project professionals and the number of PMPs is growing exponentially since last two decades.

Do I need to be PMP?
PMP certification is aspired by the individuals who have experience of working on projects, leading and directing project task as well as project managers who want to refresh their knowledge, get certified and complement their skill sets. According to PMI (http://www.pmi.org/Certification/Project-ManagementProfessional-PMP.aspx) PMP recognition is seen through increased marketability to employers and higher salary; according to the PMI Salary Survey Sixth Edition, a PMP increases your salary up to 10% more than your noncredentialed colleagues and peers.

PMP Eligibility Requirements

Candidates applying for certification as Project Management Professionals must satisfy the educational and experiential requirements for one of the following categories listed below.

Applicant Category (based on candidates educational background) Four-year bachelors degree or global equivalent

PM Education 35 contact hours

PM Experience 4500 hours

OR
High School diploma / associates graduate or global equivalent 35 contact hours 7500 hours

PMP Exam Fees

The current fees for the Computer-based testing (CBT) PMP examination are as follows:

Examination Fees (US Dollars) $405.00 $555.00

Thus one saves USD$150 on PMP exam fee for being a PMI member. The current annual membership fees are as follows: USD $129 to join (USD $10 as admin fee and USD $119 as membership fee) Hence, even after paying for PMI membership a PMI member candidate pays USD$21(=555 (405+129)) lesser than a non-Member candidate! In conclusion it is good to be PMI member before you submit your PMP application. Also, there are many other benefits for being a PMI member.

PMP Exam Application Steps

A candidate can submit both a hard copy of application and online application. Since online application saves time and money, it is always better to go for online application. 1.
Get following documents with you before you start your application Download PMI PMP Handbook at http://www.pmi.org/en/Certification/~/media/PDF/Certifications/pdc_pmphandbook.ashx Request for MVPM PMP Eligibility Experience Calculator by requesting at http://www.pmprojectmanagement.com.au/?tab=subscribe PDF version of PMI PMP Credential Application form and print a hard copy. Complete in hard copy application form and keep it with you while doing online application process.)

Note that in your online application you need to give details of your work experience such as organizations name, your role and contact details of the contact person. Dont be afraid, your contact person can be Project Sponsor, Client, Manager/ Director or Primary Stakeholder. Thus PMI give a candidate choice to give details of any contact person out of above listed four contact relationship types. Note that in case your application is selected for random audit then you need to handover these people the Audit letters, which they will sign and send directly to PMI in sealed envelope. Apart from your experience you need to have 35 contact hour formal project management educations to be eligible for PMP exam. 4-Day PMP Exam Preparatory Course conducted by MV Project Management Training & Consultancy satisfies this requirement and we issue certificate of 35 contact hours to student who attend our 4-Day PMP Exam Preparatory Course. You can use this certificate to meet this requirement. 3. Once you are satisfied with your eligibility for PMP certification and ready with above documents go for online application at http://www.pmi.org/Certification.aspx and carefully follow all the steps.

PMP Exam Details and Outline

The examination is computer-based and is comprised of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQ). The allotted time to complete the examination is four hours. The examination is offered around the world at PMI-approved testing centers and administered by Prometric (http://www.prometric.com/PMI/default.htm). Allotted examination time it 4 hours (inclusive of any break taken by candidate) i.e. there is no additional time for breaks. Out of 200 MCQ, 25 MCQ are pretest (unscored ) questions and balance 175 MCQ are scored question, i.e. your answer to 25 pretest (unscored ) questions will not be counted in your score but your answer to balance 175 question will be. With the new examination from 31/08/2011, result will not available instantaneously until mid-October as PMI want to validate the new exam.
