====================================================================== 1. INSTALLATION ====================================================================== Administrator privileges are required to install pcAnywhere. After the installat ion process, you need to restart the computer. Installation of pcAnywhere 12.5 on Windows Embedded Point of Service requires th at Internet Explorer be enabled.

International Installation Issues ====================================================================== On double-byte Windows XP operating systems, the IME is disabled during a Chat s ession or when the host user initiates a file transfer. Using the special Hankak u-Zenkaku and Katakana-Hiragana keys on the Japanese keyboard, the operator can switch from IME input to keyboard kana input. In kana input mode, each key on th e keyboard types in Hiragana/Katakana, allowing for DBCS entry. Symantec pcAnywhere File Locations ====================================================================== The pcAnywhere folder contains host files (.bhf), remote files (.chf), caller fi les (.cif), log files, and other pcAnywhere configuration files. The location of these files varies by operating system: - Windows 2000: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINNT\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywher e - Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere - Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere - Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\pcAnywhere - Windows Server 2008: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\pcAnywhere If necessary, replace C with the drive in which the operating system is installe d. Advertised Installations ====================================================================== Advertised installations are not supported with this release of pcAnywhere. Migrated Installations ====================================================================== Remote Printer settings may not be retained when migrating a previous installati on to pcAnywhere 12.5. Session keyboard and mouse control settings may not be retained when migrating a previous installation to pcAnywhere 12.5. When migrating a previous installation to pcAnywhere 12.5, hosts set to launch w ith windows may generate an error message that the host service is already runni ng. If this error is encountered, uninstall pcAnywhere 12.5, reboot the computer , and then reinstall. Integrity-checked packages of pcAnywhere 12.5 should not be installed over previ ously installed versions. To ensure proper installation, uninstall the previous installation of Symantec pcAnywhere before

installing the integrity-checked package of pcAnywhere 12.5. Failure to do so might render pcAnywhere unusable. When you migrate from an older non-English version of pcAnywhere to pcAnywhere 1 2.5, it results in duplication of Host and Remote objects. You cannot migrate the sub folders to a higher version of pcAnywhere. You have t o manually save the sub folders and copy them into the migrated base folders. pcAnywhere .msi installation ====================================================================== If you are installing pcAnywhere using the Symantec pcAnywhere.msi and you want to view the installer interface in a particular language, you need to specify th e following command line and the .mst file that contains a unique id for each la nguage. The installer language is selected on the basis of this information. msiexec /i <Symantec pcAnywhere.msi> /qf TRANSFORMS=LCID.mst LCID represents the locale ID and the applicable values are as follows: 1028.mst - Chinese Traditional 1031.mst - German 1033.mst - English North America 1069.mst English International 1036.mst - French 1040.mst - Italian 1041.mst - Japanese 1042.mst - Korean 1034.mst - Spanish

Host-only CD - installer language ====================================================================== Only the Japanese Host-only CD's installer language will be Japanese. For other languages, the Host-only CD's installer language will be English.

====================================================================== 2. PCANYWHERE FOR WINDOWS ====================================================================== Uninstalling pcAnywhere without rebooting the computer could result in a loss of video if the current user account has been renamed. Compatibility with Previous Versions ====================================================================== For enhanced security and performance, and to reduce the size of the installed f ootprint, pcAnywhere 12.5 is not backwards compatible with versions earlier than pcAnywhere 10.5.1. Host and remote objects created in pcAnywhere 12.5 are not compatible with previ ous versions of pcAnywhere. Compatibility with Operating Systems ====================================================================== Quick Deploy and Connect is not supported in Windows XP Home, Windows Vista Home Basic, or Windows Vista Home Premium due to limitations of the operating system

. Workaround: Use "Save to disk" or "Send Email option" in Quick Deploy and Connec t to deploy Thin host on these platforms. For Quick Deploy and Connect to work on other Windows Vista Editions and above, the following needs to be set/enabled: - The built-in Administrator account must be enabled. It is disabled by default . After enabling the account, ensure that a non-blank password is defined for th e administrator account. - Enable file sharing in Windows Vista, - Use the built-in administrator account credentials for Quick deploy and connec t. Credentials of other users in the administrative user group will not work. - The firewall should be disabled or tcp ports 5631 and 5632 (the default pcA tc p ports) should be opened through the firewall. Blank passwords are not allowed when logging on to the host computer during a re mote management session. Windows Thin Hosts can not be discovered or connected to when the Windows Firewa ll is enabled on Windows XP and higher. Additionally, simple file sharing must b e turned off to allow for Windows Thin Host deployment. If you are running a Windows Thin Host as a service on a Windows PE system, the Windows Thin Host window will not appear on the desktop. This behavior is due to limitations within the Windows PE operating system. The users without the administrator privileges will not be able to access functi onality of the NT User Manager button on Vista. Service pack required for different versions of Windows is as follows: - Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 + Internet explorer 6 SP1 - Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Windows XP x64 Service Pack 2 - Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 2 - Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Session Behavior ====================================================================== Launching a remote while the pcAnywhere host is waiting on a CAPI device could r esult in unexpected behavior. Authenticating with a blank password using NT authentication could result in une xpected behavior. Clicking "End Session" while a file transfer is loading could result in unintend ed consequences. OLE Automation ====================================================================== For enhanced security, the support of callers via OLE automation has been remove d. Blank host screen option ====================================================================== The Blank host screen option does not work if the operating system of the host c

omputer is Windows 2000/XP/2003 and has multiple monitors. Authentication types ====================================================================== Symantec pcAnywhere 12.5 does not support Bindery, NDS, Novell LDAP, and Netscap e LDAP authentication types. pcAnywhere Quick Connect ====================================================================== When you launch pcA Quick Connect, you may not be able to start the host service on a host computer which has Vista operating system, if the service pack 1 is n ot installed. Host at conference mode ====================================================================== When more than one remote user establishes a connection with the Windows 2008 ho st computer in a conference mode, only the remote user that first establishes th e connection is able to view the host screen. To the other remote users a blank screen is displayed. Smart card authentication ====================================================================== In Smart Card authentication, the certificate provided to the user of the parent domain is authenticated and the certificate provided to the user of the child d omain is not authenticated. When you plug-in multiple Smart cards to the remote computer, it provides an ind ex for each card such as 0, 1, 2, and so on. The remote computer always reads th e certificate from the 0 index card to establish a connection with the host comp uter. If the certificate of the Smart card plugged in on the 0 index card matche s with the user configured on the host computer, the connection is established f or all the Smart cards. If the certificate of the Smart card reader plugged in o n the 0 index card does not match with the user configured on the host computer, the connection fails for all the Smart cards. pcAnywhere displays an unexpected error if the smart card support software is no t installed. Saving chat log ====================================================================== When you save a chat log on the desktop of a Windows Vista 64 bit computer, the "location not available" error is reported. To avoid this error you can browse t o Documents and Settings, select your folder, access the Desktop, and save the c hat log or save it in another location. Establishing the remote connection for ADS user ====================================================================== When you establish a remote connection with an ADS user, the connection time is more than 35 seconds. If the connection is weak, then it takes more than one min ute to establish a remote connection. Connecting using the FQDN ====================================================================== The Call remote and host inivitations will not work using FQDN. Inconsistency in behavior with 2000 and xp while applying an option set. ====================================================================== When a standard user using a Microsoft Windows 2003 and XP operating system, cli cks Apply to local system , the option sets are not applied and no error message is

displayed. SPX support ====================================================================== pcAnywhere does not support SPX. No support for Windows 2008 Core edition ====================================================================== pcAnywhere does not support Microsoft Windows 2008 Core Edition. Sharing host disk drives ====================================================================== The 'sharing host disk drives' functionality adheres to the Microsoft Windows li mitations for drive mapping. Multi Monitor ====================================================================== When all the monitors of a host computer are selected for viewing during remote control session, a user can use the draw functionality only on the first monitor . pcA host notification ====================================================================== When a remote user connects to the host computer from a PDA, the host computer n ame or IP address is displayed on the host notification balloon instead of the r emote computer name or IP address. Gather log file ====================================================================== This option works only when you save the log files on the local computer. Log fi les are not gathered if they are saved on the central server. Edit>Preferences>Event Logging tab>ThinHost ====================================================================== The option ThinHost in the Event Logging tab appears in English even if you have selected a language other than English during the installation. White Board and pcAnywhere Mirror drivers ====================================================================== Ensure that you have installed the correct display drivers to use the White Boar d option and pcAnywhere Mirror drivers. For information on drivers, visit the fo llowing link: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/on-technology.nsf/docid/2008020811293260?Op en&seg=ent

When hosts of the same machine name exist in a Web Remote discovery list, use th e IP address to establish a session to ensure connection to the desired host. When pcAnywhere Web Remote is launched from a virtual machine running Linux Nove ll Desktop 9.0, and connections are established to hosts from pcAnywhere 11.0 an d earlier, intermittent loss of video may occur. Running pcAnywhere Web Remote from a virtual Web server might result in unexpect ed behavior. ====================================================================== 5. PCANYWHERE LINUX HOST ====================================================================== SSH and Telnet must be enabled on the target system for Linux Host deployment. For Linux Host deployment to SuSe (9.x, 10.x enterprise) and Red Hat (ES/WS 4.0) systems, the user must enable clear password authentication in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. Since the deployment is occurri ng inside of SSH, clear-text credentials will not be visible. The user could have inconsistent results when attempting to use the transfer Cli pboard functionality. Canceling a deployment of the Linux Host could cause pcAnywhere to go into a tem porary non-responsive state. Attempting to deploy the Linux Host to a system with more then one IP address (m ultiple network adapters) will result in a login failure. To work around around this issue, ensure that only one network adapter is active at time of deployment. On OpenSuSE 10.2, to use pcAnywhere Linux Host, you need to install openmotif-li bs-2.2.2 rpm package. A thin host can only be launched using the root user language on a Linux compute r. The ability to run a Mac Host while switching users on the Mac operating system is not supported. If a Mac Host is launched by one user followed by a switch in users, the resulting connection to the waiting host will fail to display video. To ensure that the Mac Host functions as expected, make sure that the user who l aunches the host remains active for the duration of the session. If the Mac Host is deployed via SSH, the host must be killed manually in order t o log out of the Mac machine. A thin host can only be launched using the root user language on a Mac computer.

To change the language of the thin host, you need to change the language of the root user. ====================================================================== 7.
