Trigeminal Nerve fifth cranial nerve; fifth nerve, CNV, CN5 *Mixed nerve Sensory and Motor a).

). Sensory sensory to skin of face, nose and nasal cavity, forehead, temple, teeth, tongue, palate b). Motor mandibular branch gives off motor nerves to muscles of mastication DIVISIONS: a. Ophthalmic V1 b. Maxillary V2 c. Mandibular V3 V1 Ophthalmic Division Carries sensory information from the scalp and forehead, the upper eyelid, the conjunctiva and cornea of the eye, the nose (including the tip of the nose except the alae nasi ), the nasal mucosa, the frontal sinuses, and parts of the meninges (the dura and blood vessels) Smallest of the three division FORAMEN OF EXIT SUPERIOR ORBITAL FISSURE

Branches: a. Lacrimal upper eyelid and eyebrow- lateral part b. Supratrochlear upper eyelid, medial part forehead, medial part, upper eyelid conjunctiva c. Supraorbital upper eyelid, forehead upto the top of skull d. Nasociliary * Long ciliary eyeball, ciliary ganglion * Infratrochlear lower eyelid, side of nose * Ethmoidal Nerves 1. Anterior Ethmoid frontal sinus, anterior ethmoid air cells 2. Posterior Ethmoid posterior ethmoid air cells, sphenoid sinus *Internal nasal branch anterior septum, lateral walls of nasal cavity *External nasal branch tip of nose V2 Maxillary Division Carries sensory information from the lower eyelid, and cheek, the nares, and upper lip, the upper teeth and gums, the nasal mucosa, the palate, and roof of the pharynx, the maxillary, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses and parts of meninges FORAMEN OF EXIT FORAMEN ROTUNDUM

Branches: a. Zygomatic branch *Zygomaticotemporal nerve zygomatic arch

*Zygomaticofacial nerve side of forehead, anterior temporal part b. Sphenopalatine * Orbital nerve periosteum of orbit, sphenoid sinus, posterior ethmoid cells * Greater Palatine nerve anterior palate, mucous membrane of posterior hard palate * Lesser Palatine nerve soft palate and tonsil * Posterior lateral nasal branch over nasal turbinates * Nasopalatine nerve lower posterior nasal septum, mucous membrane of anterior hard palate * Pharyngeal nerve nasopharynx c. PSAN Posterior Superior Alveolar Nerve * Gingival buccal gingiva of upper molars * Alveolar distobuccal and palatal roots of upper 1st molar, 2nd and 3rd molar, maxillary sinus d. Infraorbital canal * MSAN Middle Superior Alveolar Nerve; premolars and mesiobuccal root of 1st molar, maxillary sinus *ASAN Anterior Superior Alveolar Nerve; maxillary incisors, maxillary sinus e. on the face * Inferior Palpebral nerve lower eyelid * Lateral nasal nerve side of nose * Superior labial nerve upper lip OUTER NERVE LOOP: a. ASAN b. MSAN c. PSAN INNER NERVE LOOP a. Nasopalatine Nerve anterior part of palate b. Greater/ Anterior Palatine Nerve posterior part of palate

V3 Mandibular Division Carries sensory information from the lower lip, the lower teeth and gums, the chin and jaw (except the angle of jaw which is supplied by C2-C3), parts of the external ear, and parts of meninges Carries touch/position and pain/temperature sensation from the mouth Does not carry taste sensation (Chorda Tympani is responsible for taste) Lingual Nerve carries multiple types of nerve fibers that dont originate in mandibular nerve. FORAMEN OF EXIT FORAMEN OVALE

MOTOR BRANCHES: a. b. c. d. e. Internal Pterygoid nerve Masseter Nerve Deep temporal Nerve External Pterygoid nerve Mylohyoid nerve

OUTER NERVE LOOP: a. Long buccal nerve b. Mental nerve INNER NERVE LOOP: a. IAN Inferior Alveolar Nerve b. Lingual nerve
