E- GEOTECHNICAL FACTUAL REPPOR

24 August 2007 ISSUED FOR BID

Strategic Storage of Crude Oil at
Visakhapatnam Project 2158005;
1 Introduction

The Crude oil storage project has its Site Investigation program split in
two phases:

Initial Site Investigation (SI) campaign in 1999 -2000 during the

Detailed Feasibility Study.

Supplementary Site Investigation (SSI) campaign in April – June’2007

during Tender Engineering.

1.1Initial Site Investigation (SI)

The campaign was carried out by Engineers India Ltd with Skanska
International Civil Engineering AB (as EIL’s foreign back up consultant)
for the purpose of DFR level study.

Items covered during this campaign are as below:

i. Core Drilling: Six bore holes CH 1 to CH 6 were core

drilled and executed by Fugro - KND Geotech Ltd. All
the core drills were logged and documented.

ii. Water Pressure Tests: All the core holes were tested
with double packer water pressure tests and
documented.

iii. Seismic Refraction Study: Six seismic lines (S1 to S6)

were aligned in grid pattern for study of rock mass;
result has been interpreted and documented.

iv. In Situ stress measurement: In situ stress was

measured at the approximate cavern depth using hydro-
fracture method.

v. Cross hole seismic tests:

The locations for the investigation are shown in Drawing No. 1801.
1.2Supplementary Site Investigation (SSI)
The aim for this investigation was to acquire geotechnical data for the
specific project locations and also to recheck the data as obtained in
SI. Items covered are as below:

i. Core drilling: four core drilling and logging fro CH P, CH

Q, CH R and CH S
ii. Water Pressure Testing: in the core holes all through
the depth

Strategic Storage of Crude Oil at
Visakhapatnam Project 2158005;
iii. Seismic Refraction Study done on the valley at the SE
corner of the facility AND Electrical Resistivity study
along the lines of seismic study
iv. Laboratory tests on rock core samples :
a. Physical properties, compressive strength,
triaxial strength,
b. Chemical tests of water samples
c. Drillability Tests to determine Drilling Rate Index
(DRI) and Bit wear Index (BWI)

All the tests and investigation except those for Drillability Tests are
done through Rites Ltd. Drillability Tests are carried out at ‘Rock and
Soil Mechanics’ laboratory of ‘SINTEF Building & Infrastructure’,
NORWAY.
The locations for the investigation are shown in Drawing No. 1801 &
1802.

2 Objective and Scope

The purpose of this report is to present data that has been collected
during the two site investigation campaigns. The report is limited to
factual data as found during the testing at site. For interpretations of
the data, reference is made to the Geotechnical Reference Conditions
(GRC) and the Basic Engineering Design (BED) document.

The data contained in this Geotechnical Factual Report are as

obtained from the site. The data are supplied to the bidders for the
purpose of understanding the geotechnical parameters & geological
set up of the project area. The Owner emphasises that these factual
data may be incomplete, incorrect and involve contradictions. The
bidders shall for this reason be responsible for checking up the data
before using it for the purpose of quotation and Client shall not be held
responsible for the correctness, variation or deficiencies.
